Hull. 106a נטילת תרומה ס׳ משום. . . the washing of hands before a meal on secular food was introduced for the sake of uniformity with T'rumah (to make it a habit). Y. סרכא, סיר׳ ch. same, 1) adhesion, cohesion. Bets. 40a דמשכא ס׳ משום on account of the adhesion of the skin (because the hide is hard to fay unless the animal is watered before slaughtering). --[In ritual; ס׳ an adhesion of lobes of the lungs to each other or to the chest. -- 2) climbing, v. סריכא. -- 3) habit. סרס I, Pi. סיס (cmp. הרס, רסס) to destroy, uproot; to mutilate, esp. to make impotent. Tosef. B. Batb. IV, 7 וכ׳ לסרס רשאי איו דבש חלות ed. Zuck. (oth. ed. לירש) ir the honey- combs of a bee-hive are sold, the purchaser must not uproot (tear out) all of them at the same time, but must leave the outermost cakes &c. Sot. 36a סידסתן מלמטה it (the wasp צרעה) mutilated them at their lower extremities. Cant. R. to I, 1 סירסו made him impotent.
