עזיבה f. (עזב) 1) abandoning, giving up, renouncing (in favor of he poor, Lev. XIX, 10). Hull. 131b . . וכולן בהו כתיב ע׳ fמ and from all of them the owner must not derive the benefit of putting a person under obligation (v. טובה), because abandoning'(עזב) is written about them (Lev. l. c.). Y. Peah IV, end, 19a בע׳ שהן they must be abandoned. Ib. V, beg. 19b (ref. to אתם תעזב, Lev. l. c.) כזו חרתs ע׳ לך יש (it intimates that) there is another abandonment like this(renouncing one's property in favor of the poor, v. הפקר). Y. Ned. XI, 42c bot. ניתן עני מעשר בע׳ ואלו בכדיה the ithe of the poor is given to the poor by way of a transter (to a certain person), but these (gifts) are abandoned (the owner having no right of dis- posal). -2) forsaking. Lam. R. to V, 20 . . . דברים ארבעה ושכיחה ע׳ וגעילה מאיסה Jeremiah used four expressions rejection,loathing, forsaking, and forgetting. Gen. R. s. 69 (ref. to Gen. XXVIII, 15) פרנסה אלא ע׳ אין forsaking refers to sustenance (wiah ref. to Ps. XXXVII, 25); Lev. R. s. 35; a. e. -3) shunning, uniworthiness. Ned. 22a (in Chald. dict.) דע׳ מלין things which must be shunned (indecencies); (Ar. דעזובה מלין things worthy of an abandoned woman).
