Ib. הע׳ הלא . כשאין if he has nothing to pay with, who is seized but the surety? Midr. Till. to Ps. VIII (ref. to Prov. VI, 1) לא נתמנית שלא עד . . . שהזקן בשעה וכ׳ על כ׳ היית when a man is appointed an elder, the Lord says to lhimm, before thou wast appointed, tmhou wast noth responsible for the community, now that thou hast been appointed &c. Sabb. 85b זורען שתי זרועין היו אם ע׳ if the beds (in a square) were planted lengthwise, he must plant (on the interspaces) crosswise.
