Targ. Prov. XV, 17. -- Pes. 76b מהדדו מפטמי they are fattened (or flavored) wwith one another. -- 3) to flavor one's words (cmp. בם), to console, cheer up. B. Mets. 66a הוא בעלמא מילי פטומי it was merely meant to cheer up (the neighbor, not s a. binding promise).

VIII, 22c top שהפ׳ כדרך עושין as the apothecaries are in the habit of doing. Gen. פטפוט, פיט׳ m. (פטט, cmp. פתת) [something minute, tender,] one of the clay pins foroming a sortt of tripod for the support of a pot, peg. Sabb. VIII, 4 פ׳ לעשות כדי a. quantity of clay large enough for a peg. -- [Yalk. Num. 785 מנורה של פוט the peg for a candlestick v., however, quot. fr. Siure Zutta in R. S. to Kel. XI, 2.--- Pl. פטפוטים,. פטפוטין, פי׳, (פטפטי). Sabb. 102b כירה פיטפוטי עושה עני וכ׳ קטנה a poor man makes pegs for a small stove to put on it a small pot (which is also called building). Kel. פטפט פיט׳ (v. preced., a. פטטא) 1) to talk, babble. Men. 65a כנגדו מפטפם שהיה אחד מזקן חוץ except one old man who talked (childishly) against him. - 2) ביצרו פ׳ to talk or argue with one's own passion, to conguer one's slf. B. Bath. 109b (play on פוטיאל בנות, Ex. VI, 25) דאתי ביצרו שפ׳ מיוסף Elazar was a descendant of Joseph, רwho (is surnamed Putiel, oecause he) conquered his passion; Ex. R. s. 7, end שפיטם . ביצרו שפ׳ יוסף . . . אשתו שהיתה וכ׳ his wife was a descendant of two families, being on one side of the tribe of Joseph who conquered his passon, and on the other of the family of Jethro who fattened. &, v. פטם; Sot. 43a.
