ציצה f. (b. h.; preced. wds.) 1) flower, knob on the top of the central steom of the palm branch (Lulab). Y. Succ. III, beg. 53c ציצצתו יבשה (ed. Krot., a. Asheri to Succ. III, beg. ציציתו; Asheri quotes a Var. הוצין יבשו) if the top of the branch is withered. - 2) fringes. Gitt. 56a נשהיתה וכ׳ נגררת ציצתו the fringes of his cloak were dragged along on cushions. M. Kat. III, 4לציצתו תכלת Y. ed. (Mish. a. Bab. ed. 19a לציציתו; Rabb. D. S. quotes לציצתו) the blue thread for his show-fringes. -- Kel. ציצי tsitsi, a derisive imitation of the sound ts (צ) in certain formulas of benedictions. Men. 42a (ref. to a. person who had said the benediction ציצית לעשות) מאי הכי שמענא צ׳ what is that tsitsi I heard here ? Ber. 42a (ref. to the benediction הארן . .. המוציא) וכ׳ צ׳ מאי (Ms. K. ציו ציו).

ציצית f (b. h. ציצת, צוץ, v. צוציתא) 1) hair-lock. Sifra. Ahare, Par. 9, ch. XIII (ref. to Lev. XVIII, 3) חגדל שלא צ׳ that thou must not grow a lock (v. בלורית). Zeb. 26a; Yalk. Lev. 446 וכ׳ ועייתו בפנים הוא if the sacrifice stands (within the sacred precincts), and its locks (prob. the tuft of its tail) are without. - 2) fringe, esp. the shomr- fringes (Num. XV, 38). Sifre Num. 115 דבר אלא צ׳ אין שהוא כל ודבר היוצא by tsitsith is meant something that protrudes (hangs over) and is of a minute size; Men. 41b. Sifre . c. הגדילים מן וצ׳, v. גדילה II. ציצלין, v. צלצולין. ציקין m. pl. (יבק) [cast in a mould,] only in קדרה ציקי a sort of puddiing consisting of minced meats &c. mixed with wine and spices. Hull. 77b ק׳ צ׳ עשאן he minced them (the bones &c.) for a pudding. B. Mets. 86b לצ׳ הללו ק׳ those (the animals mentioned I Kings V, 3) were used for puddings. Yoma 75a (ref. to בפרור בשלו, Num. XI, 8) וכ׳ ק׳ צ׳ . .. להם שירד מלמד this intimates that, with the manna, the ingredients for puddings came down &c. Keth. 65a ק׳ לצ׳ יין wine for puddings. Pes. 56a; a. e.

XI, 12) לאסור שקן וכ׳ ורוטבן צירן את 'abomination' is used to imply the pro- hibition of their brine or soup &c. Ib. ורוטבם צירם לאסור. Ab. Zar. II, 6 (35b) דגה בה שאין צ׳ (read בו) brine in which no fish is distinguishable. Ib. 40a בצירן in their brine (without the fish), opp. בגופן. Hull. 99b; a. fr.
