דדד (b. h.), Pi. רדד (cmp. ירד) [to lower,] to flatten, stamp, beat. Tosef. M. Kat. I, 4 וכ׳ ה)אדמה) ומרדד (Var. ומדדיד) and beats the ground under it (to kill the moles); Y. ib. , 80c; Bab. ib. 7a ומרדה (Ms. M. ומדדה), v. רדה I. Tam. VI, 3 ויוצא מרדד התחיל(Bab. ed. 33a מרודן) he fatten- ed (spread the heap of coals) and went out. Ib. 2 ורדדן וכ׳ בשולי (or ורידן) and spread them with the rim of the pan. רדי, רדה I (b. h.; cmp. דדר) [to stamp, tread,] 1) (cmp. בעט) to rebel, be contumacious. Yoma 40b למינין . . . אל לררות Ms. M. (ed. לצדוקים) give the heretics no occasion to rebel (to argue in favor of their heresy); Tosef. ib. III (I), 2 אחריכם לרדות ed. Zuck. (Var. אחריהם לרדותן, corr. acc.) to rebel after you are gone; Par. III, 3; Sifra, Vayikra, N'dab., ch. II, Par. 2. - 2) to chastise. Mekh. Mishp. s. 4 ובתלמידו בבנו הרודה he who chastises his son or his pupil (and kills him); Macc. II, 2 וכ׳ את הרודה הרב the teacher that punishes his pupil. Gen.
