X, 28a top וכ׳ בשוויו . . . הזקינה והיתה the elder woman sold him an object for what it was worth, but the young woman said, take it for less; (Bab. ib. 106a בשוה); Sifre Num. 131. Y. Ab. Zar. I, 40a top וכ׳ בשוייו עמו מעלה he settles with the gentile partner for what it is worth, and gives half of its value to the priest; Tosef. Bekh. II, I בשיויו. Keth. 67a כשוויו הוא והרי. לו הכניסה (read; בש׳) if the wife brought him (uncoined) gold, it is valued and charged to him for what it is worth (he need not add one third in his marriage contract, as he must do in the case of cash); ib. בשווייהן הן והרי and they are charged to him for their value; a. e.

*שויה, שוייה f. (v. שוה Pi. 2) levelling, overcoming difficulties, achievement. Tanh. Naso 28; ed. Bub. 32 (ref. to מצליח, Gen. XXXIX, 2) וכ׳ ש׳ אלא מצליח אין the root צלח means levelling, as we read (II Sam. XIX, 18) וצלחו וכ׳ they 'cut through the Jordan.

שוילנאי pr. n. f. Sh'vilnay, colloquial name for a lewd woman. Snh. 82b (ref. to Num. XXV, 15) כזבי לא ש׳ אלא שמה (Ms. M. שוולאנאי Ms. K. שוולנאי; Ms. F. ששולנאי, שלני) her name was not Cozbi but Sh.; . . דאמרי והיינו בעיא מאי ש׳ thence arose the proverb, between &c.', v. אודבנא; Yalk. Num. 772 שולנאי.
שויסקאל pr. n. m. Shvisk'el, a nickname for Ezekiel (v. next w.). Kidd. 70a.
שויסקי m. pl. (Persian, v. Koh. Ar. Compl. s. v.) roast. Pes. 96a (of the emurim (v. אימורים) of the Passover sacrifice in Egypt) ש׳ עבדינהו דלא לן לימא מאן (עבוד ש׳. .) who tells us that they did not make a roast of them (and eat them)? - [B. Mets. 60a, Alf. Ms., v. שיסקי.]
שוירי pl. n. pl. (cmp. שיירא) Shavvire (Caravan Station). B. Mets. 18a a letter of divorce was found in which was written, וכ׳ מתא בש׳ at Sh. (which is) a place on the river (or canal) Rakhis. Ib.b top ש׳ לשני חיישינן we must apprehend the existence of two places by the name of Sh.
