שומשוק f. (cmp. Gr. ~~~y~~v) Marjoram, a species of hyssop. Sabb. 109b (expl. אזוב) ש׳ (Ar. שמשק). Ib. הכי ושש׳ and shumshuk is found to have that shape (as the Biblical hyssop is described to have).
שומשמא m. =h. שומשום, sesame or poppy. Sot. 3b, v. זנותא, a. תוקפא. -- Pl. שומשמי. Ber. 38a וכ׳ אמרת קא דש׳ (Ar. דשושמי) by טרימא do you mean a preparation of sesame (or poppy) seeds, or of saffower? שונא m. (b. h. שנא; שנא) hater, enemy. Snh. III, 5 והש׳ האוהב a friend and an enemy (are disqualified as witness or judge); וכ׳ דבר שלא כל ש׳ an enemy is he who has not spoken to the person concerned for the last three days on account of his hostility. B. Mets. 32b לפרוק אוהב וכ׳ בש׳ מצוה לטעון וש׳ if there is a friend that needs help to unload, and an enemy that needs help to load, it is proper to help the enemy in order to bend his animosity. Ib. דקרא ש׳ the case of the enemy mentioned in the Scrip- ture (Ex. XXIII, 5, where the release of the beast is con- cerned), דמתניתן ש׳ that of our Boraitha (just quoted). Ab. d'R. N. ch.
