שקוט m. (שקט, Shaf. of קט; cmp. קטט, קוט) [cut short,] 1) stubby, abnormally short. Ned. 66b ש׳ . . שמא הוא is her neck graceful? t is too short. Tosef. Bekh. V, 1 וש׳ שמוט צוארו whose neck is abnormally long or abnormally short; Bekh. 43b, expl. מיחבא דחביא, v. הבי; v. שמוטט. -- 2) abruptly bent, angular. Ib. שקוף m. (שקף I, v. משקוף) cross piece, lintel, arch, arched gateway with posts. Neg. XII, 4; Tosef. ib. VI, 5 הש׳ תחת ליתן כדי as much wood as is required to place under an arch (to keep it in shape); Ib. סנדל לעשות כדי הנש׳ לאחורי as much as is required to make 'a shoe' (protection) back of the arch. Tosef. Ohol. VII, 10 שקופה מערה של the arched entrance of a cave. Ib. [בין] אין אם וכ׳ לש׳ פיה if there is not the space of a handbreadth between the mouth of the pot and the lintel. Y. Snh.
