A translation of Macaulay's celebrated work, published by the Vernacular Literature Committee — illustrated by a dozen plates of Madras, Benares, the Mah- rattas, &c. &c. 135. Krishna Chandra Charitra, by Rajib Lochan, 1st ed., 1805, last 1834, Ser P., 8 as., pp. 58, Roz. & Co. The life of a man who last century was a great friend to Sanskrit learning in Krishnaghur, the Augustus of his day, in this life it is stated that he induced various chiefs to ioin the Eng- lish against the Moslems — the style is remarkable for ele- gancy and simplicity, there are intermingled in connection with the Rajah various references to the state of Bengal at the time of the battle of Plassey, blended here and there with mythological accounts. It was compiled at the request of Dr. Carey, for the use of the students of Fort William College, and though the price was 5 Rs. for 120 pp. it barely paid its expenses then, so limited was the demand for Bengali books.
