Mensuration forms an important item of instruction as it so deeply concerns the rights of the peasants : simple works have been brought out on this subject— but here in Bengal owing to nothing having been done for the educa- tion of the masses, though a work on Mensuration came out in 1841, yet it is only of late it has met with any kind of a sale. 163. LAND SURVEYING, Elements of, on the Anglo-Indian plan, Brajamohan Fr. Mirzapur. 1841, 2nd ed. 1846. pp. 85, 14 as. s. b. s. Bhumi Parimdn Vidya. The author Frasanna Kumar Tagore states that owing to the set- tlement of Europeans and the decrease of wars more atten- tion is paid to land which has increased in value. The author is now Clerk to the Legislative Council; it contains tables of land measures, 21 diagrams of various areas to be measured, measuring rivers, and uneven land, there are numerous dia- grams to illustrate the various modes of measurement. In Chaturjya's Arithmetic will be found a very good introduction to Mensuration. 164. MENSURATION, Robinson's, Bhumi Parimdn, pp. 24, 1850. Asam, Sibsagar F. Extensively and most sue* cessfully used in the Asam Vernacular Schools, the author is one of the Inspectors of Government Schools in Asam and the neighbouring districts. This work gives the elements of Land Surveying and rules for finding the areas of sixteen plain figures. It contains ten problems— to find the area of a square : of a rectangular parallelogram : an oblique angled parallelo- gram : a trapezium : a circle : ellipse : two sides of a right angled triangle : a triangle : a right angled triangle. 165.
