1. ‘This translation from Dante does not occur in the first edition (1649) of the Great Exemplar: it was added, with other “additionals,” in the second edition (1653).
2. These passages are translated, not direct from the original, but from a Latin version, which is possibly that of Johannes Serravallensis (see Athenæum, Nov. 30, 1901).
