till he was half the sea over, when, as if all the elements had conspired his ruin, rain, thunder, lightning, and winds handed him from wave to wave, calling to heaven, and on his fair Hero’s name, till clashing among the rocks on the other side, lost his noble life; and Hero, who had impatiently expected him all that night, with greedy eyes looked out trembling in the morning, and there, by the too cruel fate of the rigid destinies, she beheld his body floating on the waves; at this she cried out in a lamentable manner, and calling upon his name, leaped out and perished in the waves, which, after they were dead, drove them on shore, folded arm in arm; which sad tragedy being known, they were pitied by all as great examples of love and constancy, and buried in one grave. Hero’s father soon after dying for grief, because of the cruelty he had used towards the lovers.
