Cloudy and cool. Left Boulder for Berthoud on 9:28 train, for Colorado Geological Survey, about on time, reached Berthoud at 10:30, went to hotel, then to livery stable and ordered team. Had dinner at 11:45. Started west at 12:30. I about the middle of the medial “Dakota” shales we found Inoceramus cf. labiatus and Avicula linguiformis as at Owl Canyon, with other spp. and many plant stems. In west limb of W syncline basal Dakota sandstone is very massive and hard, and Morrison consists mostly of hard limestones and calcareous sandstones below, upper part covered. Found no fossils.
