Sugar cane is cut and shipped to a sugar mill. Here the cane is crushed by machinery, which we see in^this picture, and is then p»aeecl between rollers which squeeze out the juice The juice is first treated with milk of lime, to remove impurities which settle to the bottom of the tank, and the juice is then heated and evaporated, and raw or unrefined sugar is produced.
