These words were used recently in the editorial columns of a prominent weekly review, and the phrase is in no way exaggerated. The FRIENDS' EMERGENCY & WAR VICTIMS RELIEF COMMITTEE has workers in all the stricken countries doing all that can be done with the means at their disposal to cope with the situation. AUSTRIA. The Committee is devoting the greater part of its attention to the needs of children under six years of age. The work can only be extended if further funds are forthcoming. GERMANY. The lack of food, the spread of tuberculosis and other diseases, the shortage of clothing and hospital requisites, make Germany one of the unhappiest countries. Here, too, our workers are unable to deal with more than a tithe of the need. POLAND. Added to the troubles common to most of the stricken areas, Poland has to contend with the devastating ravages of a typhus epidemic, which threatens to involve the whole of Europe. Our Unit, fighting against tremendous odds, is disinfecting houses and people, substituting clothing for the rags now being worn, and feeding and giving medical treatment to the limit of its power. THE NEED IS ALMOST UNLIMITED. Donations, which may be ear-marked for particular countries if desired, should be sent to the Hon. Secretary, A.
