five to be temporarily defrayed out of surpluses ejected by the saving of expenditure on other votes for naval and military services for the said year; vis.

1st A sum of two hundred and thirty-seven thousand two hundred and ninety-three pounds eight shillings and two-pence (in part of three hundred and eighty-one thousand one hundred and nine pounds nine shillings and ninepence) for navy services out of the unexpended balances of certain votes, aided by sums realised in excess of the estimated appropriations in aid:
2nd A sum of sixty-one thousand eight hundred and seventy-eight pounds five shillings and fourpence, for army services out of the unexpended balances of certain votes, aided by sums realised in excess of the estimated appropriations in aid:

It is enacted that the application of the said sums is hereby sanctioned

Declaration required in certain cases before recipt of sums appropriated6. A person shall not receive any part of a grant which may be made in pursuance of this Act for half -pay or army, navy, or civil non-effective services, until he has subscribed such declaration as may from time to time be prescribed by a warrant of the Treasury before one of the persons prescribed by such warrant.

Provided that, whenever any such payment is made at more frequent intervals than once in a quarter, the Treasury may dispense with the production of more than one declaration in respect of each quarter.

Any person who makes a declaration for the purpose of this section, knowing the same to be untrue in any material particular, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor.

Short title7. This Act may be cited for all purposes as the Appropriation Act, 1896.
