The TITLES of the STATUTES.

The Statute of the Staple, made the same 27th year

  1. WHERE the Staple shall be kept.
  3. All Merchants may freely sell all their Merchandizes in the Staple.
  4. Merchants may buy Woolls, Leather, Fells, and Lead in England, so that they he carried to the Staple.
  5. That none going to the Staple be disturbed by the Purveyors.
  6. The King's Justices shall have no Cognizance of that which pertaineth to the Staple.
  7. That no Marshal or other Minister meddle with the Staple.
  8. Touching Licence of Passage of Woolls, Leather, Fells, or Lead.
  9. The Jurisdiction of the Staple.
  10. For Recognizance of Statutes of the Staple.
  11. For Weights and Measures of the Staple.
  12. Against forestalling of Merchandizes coming to the Staple.
  13. That no Woolls, Fells, Leather, nor Lead, be carried into Scotland.
  14. Touching Goods robbed upon the Sea coming into the Realm.
  15. For bringing of Bullion into the King's Exchanges.
  16. Concerning Indentures to be made between Carriers of Merchandizes to the Staple by fresh Rivers, and the Bailiffs of the Towns where they be Shipped.
  17. For the Rent of Places in the Staple where Woolls and other Merchandizes shall be set.
  18. That no Merchant Stranger be impeached for others Debt.
  19. Merchants of Ireland and Wales may bring their Merchandizes to the Staples in England.
  20. That none lose his Goods by Forfeit of his Servants.
  21. Merchant Strangers taken into the King's Protection.
  22. The Authority of the Major and Constables of the Staple.
  23. For Correctors of Strangers and Denizens to be in the Staple.
  24. For a certain Number of Porters, and other Officers, to be in the Staple.
  25. For Association to the Major of the Staple, where any Alien is Party.
  26. Nothing to be done in Prejudice of the Staple.
  27. Credence to be given to the Letters or Oaths of the Owners of Merchandizes coming into the Realm, testifying the true Value of them.
  28. The Penalty of them that be convict for shipping of Woolls.
  29. Confirmation of Privileges and Customs of the Staple.
  30. The Fees of the Mayors and Constables of the Staple.

Anno 28 Edwardi 3.

  1. COnfirmation of all Statutes not repealed.
  3. The Lords Marchers in Wales shall be attendant to the Crown of England, and not to the Principality of Wales.
  4. None to be disseised or imprisoned, without due Process of the Law.
  5. How Escheators and other Officers shall answer the King the Profits of Lands coming to him by the Death of his Tenants.
  6. No Iron shall be sent out of the Realm.
  7. For the Election of Coroners.
  8. How long Sheriffs shall abide in their Offices.
  9. An Attaint shall be granted as well upon a Bill as upon a Writ of Trespass.
  10. No Writ shall be directed to a Sheriff to charge an Inquest to Indict any.
  11. For Redress of Errors, and Misprisions in Government in the City of London.
  12. Fresh Suit shall be made' after Robbers from Country to Country.
  13. Within what Time Purveyances made for the King's House shall be paid for.
  14. The Warrant of packing of Woolls shall be put out, and Inquest shall be De medietate lingua, where an Alien is Party.
  15. For shewing of Woolls every Day at the Staple, except Sunday.
  16. An Act declaring the Bounds of the Staple.

  3. Against the abating of the Prices of Woolls.
  4. For Discharge of the Estreats in the Exchequer.
  5. Against Extortion in Bishops Officers for Probates of Wills.
  6. The Contents of a Tun of Wine, and the true gauging of the same.
  7. Touching Fines and Amerciarnents of Labourers.
  8. Justices shall enquire of the Offenders of the Laws of the Staple.
  9. What Refuse shall be made of Wooll. All Woolls shall be brought to the Staple.
  10. The Chancellor and Treasurer upon Cause may defer the Passage of Woolls.
  11. For the Rule and Reformation of the Victuallers of. London.
  12. To whom the Ordinary may commit Adminstration, where a Man dieth intestate, and the Administrators to have Actions, as Executors should.
  13. The Chancellor and Treasurer (hall reform and examine Errors in the Exchequer.
  14. The King's Pardon.
  15. For levying of Escapes.
  16. At what Time the Sheriff shall hold his Turn.

The Statute of Herrings ,made in the same One and thirtieth Year. Stat. 2.

  1. TOuching Herring, and the Manner of selling thereof.
  3. Concerning the Sale of Herrings at Yarmouth.
  4. For Stockfish.
