A.D. 1391 Mortmain where fome be (eifed c of Lands to the c Ul'e of religious { or fpiritual Per- and of the fame, by Sufferance and Affent of the Tenants, have made Church-yards, and by Bulls of the Bifhop of Rome have dedicated and hallowed the fame, and in them do make continually Parochial Burying without Licence of the King and of the chief Lords;" ' therefore it is declared in this Par- liament, That it is manifeftly within the Compafs of the laid Statute. (4) And moreover it is agreed and affented, That all they that be poffeffed by Feoff- ment, or by other Manner, to the Ufe of religious People, or other fpiritual Perfons, of Lands and Te- nements, Fees, Advowfons, or any Manner other Pofleffions whatfoever, to amortife them, and where- of the faid religious and fpiritual Perfons take the Profits, that betwixt this and the Feaft of St. Michael next coming, they fliall caufe them to be amortifed by the Licence of the King and of the Lords, or elfe that they fhall fell and aliene them to fome other Ufe between this and the faid Feaft, upon Pain to be for- feited to the King, and to the Lords, according to the Form of the faid Statute of Religious, as Lands purchafed by religious People: (5) And that from henceforth no fuch Purchafe be made, fo that fuch religious or other fpiritual Perfons take thereof the Profits, as afore is faid, upon Pain aforefaid. (6) And that the fame Statute extend and be obferved of all Lands, Tenements, Fees, Advowfons, and other Poffeffions, purchafed, or to be purchafed to the Ufe of Gilds or Fraternities. (7) And moreover It is af- fented, becaufe Mayors, Bailiffs, and Commons of Cities, Boroughs, and other Towns which have a per- petual Commonalty, and others which have Offices perpetual, be as perpetual as People of Religion, that from henceforth they fhall not purchafe to them, and to their Commons or Office, upon Pain con- tained in the faid Statute De religiofis.
