The Bill of Confpiracies of Victuallers and Craftfmerc. Victuallers con- ' TT Orafmuch as of late divers Sellers of Victuals, not contented with moderate and reafonable Gain, but fpinngto fell t jp minding to have and to take for their Victuals fo much as lift them, have confpired and covenanted their Victuals < together to fell their Victuals at unreafonable Prices : (z) And likewife Artificers, Handicraftfmen, and Prices and La. ' Labourers have made Confederacies and Promifes,. and have fworn mutual Oaths not only that they fhould bourers confpi- ' not meddle one with another's Work, and perform and finifti that another hath begun, but alfo toconfti- ring. touching ' tute and appoint how much Work they (hall do in a Day, and what Hours and Times they fliall work, their Works, s con trary to the Laws and Statutes of this Realm, and to the great Hurt arid Impoverifhment of the King's a epum e , c Majefty's Subjects:' (3) For Reformation thereof it is ordained and enacted by the King our Sovereign Lord, the Lords and Commons in this prefent Parliament affembled, and by the Authority of the fame, That if. any Butchers, Brewers, Bakers, Poulterers, Cooks, Coftermongers or Fruiterers, fhall at any Time from and after the firft Day of March next coming, confpire, covenant, promife or make any Oaths, The Pimilhment that they fhall not fell their Victuals but at certain Prices ; (4) or if any Artificers, Workmen or Labour- of the Labourers ers do confpire, covenantor promife together, or make any Oaths, that they {hall not make or do their eonfpiring the Work's but at a certain Price or Rate, or fhall not enterprize or take upon them to finifh that another hath T f !n ? e ? r w . an " er begun, or fhall do but a certain Work in a Day, or fhall not work but at certain Hours and Times; (5) sEl.c. t, ' that then every Perfon fo eonfpiring, covenanting, (wearing or offending, being lawfully convict thereof by Witnefs, Confeffion or otherwife, (hall forfeit for the firft Offence ten Pounds to the King's Highnefs ; and if he have fufficient to pay the fame and do alfo pay the fame within fix Days next after his Conviction ; or elfe fhall differ for the fame Offence twenty Days Imprifonment, and fhall only have Bread and Water tor his Suftenance : (6) And for the fecond Offence fhall forfeit twenty Pound to the King, if he have fuffi- cient to pay the fame, and do pay the fame within fix Days next after his Conviction, or elfe (hall fuffer for the fecond Offence Punifhment of the Pillory; (7) and for the third Offence (hall forfeit forty Pound to the King, if he have fufficient to pay the fame, and alfo do pay the fame within fix Days next after his Con- viction, or elfe fhall fit on the Pillory and lofe one of his Ears, and alfo fhall at all Times after that be taken as a Man infamous, and his Saying, Depofitions or Oath not to be credited at any Time in any Mat- ters of judgment.
