Leafes of Lands Parcel of the Duchy of Lancajler, made in Reverfion, or whereof the old Rent is not referved. What Letters Patents only this Statute doth extend unto. A Confirmation of the King's Letters Patents, notwith- ftanding his Non-age, or any Statute made for Tenures, Rents or Tenths. CAP. IV. An Act that all Patentees of Colledtorfhips of Tenths be bound by Recognifance. HERE the Archbifhops and Bifhops of this Realm of England, are bound to the King's Mijefty for the collecting and true Payment of the Difmes or Tenths due to his Highnefs, for all and fin- ' gular Benefices and other Ecclefiaftical Promotions whatfoever, being within their feveral Diocefs: For ' the Collection whereof, divers of the Predeceffors of the faid Archbifhops and Bifhops have by their Let- ' ters Patents (confirmed with the Chapter Seal) given and granted to fundry Perfons, without Provifion of ' fufficient Bonds for the true Collection and Payment of the faid Difmes or Tenths to our Sovereign Lord, ' or otherwife to difcharge the Grantors of the faid Patents, and their Succeflbrs, whereby the King's Ma- ' jefty hath been greatly defrauded of his faid Duties, and many of the Bifhops fore troubled, to their great ■' Hindrance and utter Undoing:' II. Be it therefore enacted by our Sovereign Lord the King, with the AfTent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and the Commons, in this prefent Parliament aflembled, and by the Authority of the fame, That all Collectors of the faid Tenths, under any Archbifhop or Bifhop within this Realm of England, or other the King's Dominions, having Letters Patents, or other Writings of their faid Office of Collector- fhip of the faid Tenths, fhall before the Feaft of the Nativity of St. John Baptijl next coming be bound by their fufficient Writing Obligatory or Recognifance, in the Court of the Firft-Fruits and Tenths, or in any other Court where the King's Revenues of the Tenth fhall be anfwerable, in fuch Sum or Sums of Money as fhall be due and growing yearly to our Sovereign Lord the King within their faid Collection or Office, tofave and keep the faid Archbifhops or Bifhops and every of them harmlefs, and without Hurt or Damage, againft the King's Majefty, his Heirs and Succeflbrs, of and for all Manner of Accompts and Payments of Money, which they or any of them fliall or may conveniently receive during the Time of their feveral Collections, and that may be lawfully demanded or required of the faid Archbifhops or Bifliops or any of them for or concerning the faid Tenths, by Reafon of the Statute of the Firft-fruits and Tenths, or elfe their laid Let- ters Patents;;nd other Writings to be utterly void and of none Effect. ' III. And for that the Parfons, Vicars and Curates within this Realm, for the moft part be not able to ' pay their Tenths before that they fhall have received the Profits of their Bsnefices, which yearly groweth ' and
