granting feveral Duties upon Vellum, Parchment and Paper; and for afcertaining the Ad- tneafurement of the Tunnage of Ships. HERE AS feveral Doubts and Difficulties are arifen upon the Interpretation of feveral Claufes in' an Aft of Parliament made in the fifth and fixth Years of the Reign of their Majefties King ' William and Queen Mary, intituled, An J£f for granting to their Majejiies feveral Duties upon Vellum, 5 & 6 w. & M. ' Parchment and Paper, for four Tears, tovjards carrying on the War againji France:' For the explaining and c. zi, remedying the faid Doubts and Difficulties, II. Be it declared and enafted by the King's moil Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Con- Recognizances fen t of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this prefent- Parliament aflembled, and by before ju dice Authority of the fame, That the faid KSt, nor any Claufe therein contained, fhall be conftrued to charge °f"^^'^5' *-'"- with any Duty fpecified in the faid KSi, any Warrant made by, or Recogniz,ance taken before, any Juftice j^" °^c T!?"- or JufHces of the Peace, or any Surrender of any Copyhold Eftate, or Copies for fuch Eftate, or any Cer- emp'ted.' *" tificate of Marriage of any Widow of any Seaman, or any Proceedings of any Court Martial which re- late to the Trial of any common Soldier, or any Orders, Decrees or Proceedings before any Commiffioners of Sewers, or in the Court of Stannaries; but the faid Warrants, Recognizances, Surrenders, Copies, Cer- tificates, Orders, Decrees and Proceedings, fhall and are hereby declared to be exempted from the Payment " of any the Duties mentioned in the faid Aft. III. And be it further enafted and declared by the Authority aforefaid. That the Claufe in the faid Aft, Degree of whereby the Duty of forty Shillings is laid upon the Regifter or Entry of any Degree in any of the Two Batchelorof Univerfities, fhall not extend to charge with the faid Duty of forty Shillings the Regifter or Entry of any ^"^ exempted. ■ Batchelor of Arts, who is hereby exempted from the Payment thereof. IV. And be it further enafted and declared by the Authority aforefaid, That the Claufe in the faid Aft, Commiffion of whereby the Duty of forty Shillings is laid upon Letters Patents, fhall not extend to Commiffions of Re- Rebellion ex-- bellion in Procefs; but that the Commiffions of Rebellion fhall be and are hereby exempted from the faid =™P"'^' Duty of forty Shillings. V. And be it further enafted and declared by the Authority aforefaid. That the Claufe in the faid Aft, Officers in in- whereby the Duty of forty Shillings is laid uDon Admittances of Officers in any Court whatfoever, fhall 2™"' '^°'"" not be extended to charge any annual Officer in any Corporation or inferior Court, whofe Office is under *^' '^'^'^"'P'^'*' the Value of ten Pounds per Annum, in Salaries, Fees, or otlier Perquifites ; but the faid annual Officer is hereby exempted and difcharged from the faid Duty. . VI. And be it further enacted' and declared by the Authority aforefaid. That the Officers at Sea fhall pay Sea Officers to the fame Duty that the Officers at Land pay, and no more; anything in the faid Aft to the contrary in any pay as Laud ofw ^ • wife notwithflanding. ^"^• VII. And be it further enafted by the Authority aforefaid. That the Penalty of five hundred Pounds 500 1. Penaltjr ■ mentioned in the faid Aft fhall no longer ftand and be in Force, but is hereby altered and changed into the changed into 5 1. Penalty of five Pounds only ; and that for the future, in all Cafes where by the faid A£t the Offender was to forfeit five hundred Pounds, he fliall forfeit no more than five Pounds, to be recovered with Cofls of Suit; any Thing in the faid A6t to the contrary in any wife notwithflanding. VIII. And be it further enafted and declared by the Authority aforefaid.
