An Acl to repeal an Aft made in the nine and thirtieth Year of the Reign of Qiieen Eli- zabeth, intituled, y}n ASl lo rcftra'm the exccjjive making of Malt, and to diicharge and vacate orders made by Ju[lices of Peace by virtue thereof, for retraining Malfters from making Malt. 'HERE AS by an Aft made the laft Seffions of this prefent Parliament, intituled. An A£l for granting to His Ma'jefly certain Duties upon Malt, Mum, Szvects, Cyder, and Perry, as well tozvarih ' carring on the IFar againji Vvdincs, as for the necc£ary Expence of His Majejlys Houjloold, and other Occa- ' fion's, a Duty of Six-pence per Bufhel was laid upon Malt for a certain Time therein limited : And ' whereas an A£t was made in the nine and thirtieth Year of the Reign of Queen Elizabeth, intituled, ' An ASi to reftrain the exceffwe ?naiing of Malt, and there hath been fome Doubt, v/hether the fame Aft ' be now in force, by reaion the Title of the faid Aft was miftaken in the Aft of Parliament whereby ' . ' it was defigned to have been continued ; yet neverthelefs feveral Juftices of Peace at their Quarter-Seffions' ' have taken upon them to make Orders to fupprefs and reftrain Malfters from buying of Barley .to convert' ' into Malt, and from ufing and exercifing the Employ of Malting by the Space of one Year, which is a' ' great Damage to His Majefty, by lefTening the Revenue, and a Difcburagement to Malfters:' Eor Re-' medy thereof, Be it enafted by the King's moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in, this prefent Parliament aflembled, and by. the Au- thority of the fame. XXIII. An A(9: for granting to His Majefty a further Subfidy of Tunnage and Poundage, towards raifing the yearly Sum of feven hundred thoufand Pounds, for the Service of Majefty's- Houfliold, .and other Ufes therein mentioned, during His Majefty's Life. HEREAS Your Majefty's moft dutiful and loyal Subjefts the Commons oi England in Parlia-' ment afiembled, being deeply fenfible of the great Bleflings which, by the Goodnefs of Amighty' God, we and all other the Subjefts of Your Majefty's Realms and Dominions, in the free Exercile of the true Chriftian Religion (the moft valuable Benefit which can be beftowed on any Nation or People) as alfo in our Liberties and Properties, do fully enjoy under Your Majefty's moft aufpicious Government;' and being defirous to make a grateful Acknowledgment of Your Majefty's unparalleled Grace and Fa- vour to us Your Commons, and particularly for the great and fuccefsful IJndertakings and Atchiev-- nients, whereby Your Majeity hath been the happy Inftrument of fecuring the aforefaid Bleflings to us and our Poftcrities;' have therefore freely and unanimoufly refolved to increafe Your Majefty's Revenue during Your Majefty's Reign (which God long continue) and do give and grant unto Your moft Excellent Majefty the further Rates, Duties, and Sums of Money, herein after mentioned ; and do humbly befeech Your Majefty that it may be enafted ; and be it enafted by the King's moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and of the Commons, in this prefent Par- liament aflembled, and by Authority of the fame, That over and above all Subfidies of Tunnage and' Poundage, and over and above all additional Duties, Impofitions, and other Duties whatfoever, by any other Aft or Afts of Parliament, or otherwife howfoever, already due or payable, or which ought to be paid to Flis Majefty, for or upon any Wines, Goods or Merchandizes whatfoever, imported or to be im-. ported, there fhall be raifed, levied, collefted, paid, and fatisfied unto His Majefty, one other Subfidy called Tunnage, for and upon all Wines, which from and after the laft Day of fanuary, which fhall be in-, the Year of our Lord one thoufand fix hundred ninety-nine, at any Time or Times, during his Majefty's Life, fliall be imported or brought into the Kingdom of England, Dominion of Wales, or Town of Ber- wick upon Tweed (that is to fay) IL Of every Tun of Wine of the Growth of France, or of any the Dominions of the French King, or Crown of France, that fhall come into the Port of London, and the Members thereof, by way of Mer- chandize, by His Majefty's natural born Subjefts, the Sum of four Pounds and ten Shillings of current- Englijlo Money, and fo after that Rate ; and by Strangers and Aliens fix Pounds of the like Money : And of every Tun of the like Wine, which fliall be brought into all and every the other Ports and Places of this Kingdom, and the Dominions thereof, by way of Merchandize, by His Majefty's natural born Sub- jefts, 'the Sum of three Pounds; and by Aliens four Pounds ten Shillings.
