Clerk of the Peace, fhall be ingroffed or v/ritten, whereof the Duty payable, as aforefaid, by the faid for- mer A'fis, is five Shillings. LIII. Every Skin or Piece of Vellum, Parchment, or Sheet, or Piece of Paper, upon which any Licence for, or Certificate of Marriage, fiiall be ingrofied or written, which are to be liable only to a Duty of five Shillings by the faid former Aifts. _ . LIV. Every Piece of Vellum or Parchment, upon which any Writ of Covenant for levying of Fines fliall be ingrofied or written,- whereof the Duty remaining upon the faid former Afts is five Shillings. LV. Every Piece of Vellum or Parchment, upon which any Writ of Entry, for fufFering a Common Recovery, fiiall be ingrofied or written, v/hich is fubjedi: to the like fingle Duty of five Shillings. LVI. Every Skin or Piece of Vellum or Parchment, or Sheet of Paper, upon which any Writ of Habeas Corpus fhall be ingroffed or written, v/hich is alfo liable to the fingle Duty of five Shillings. LVII. AH which Matters and Things, fo liable only to the faid fingle Duties, until the faid firft Day of Augujl one thoufand feven hundred and fix, fhall be marked and ftamped only with a fingle Mark or Stamp, according to the faid former Acls ; any thing herein contained to the contrary notwithftanding. LVIII. And it is hereby further enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That all Vellum, Parchment, and ■ Paper, herein before charged, (hall before any of the Matters or Things herein before mentioned be there- upon ingrofied or written (fuch V/riting or Ingrofiing being after the lafi: Day of July one thoufand feven hundred and fix) be firft brought to the Head Office for the faid Duties to be ftamped and marked with one Mark or Impreffion for the refpeilive Duties by this Aft payable to His Majefly, His Heirs and Succeffors, for ever. , _ LIX. And it is hereby further enafted. That the Chief Commiflioners for the faid Duties upon Vel- lum, Parchment, and .Paper, by themfelves, or by their Officers employed under them, fhall, and they are hereby impowered and required forthwith, upon Demand to them made by any Perfon or Perfons, from time to time, to ftamp or mark, as this Aft direfts, any Quantities or Parcels of Vellum, Parchment, ot Paper, he or they paying to fuch Officer or Officers, as fhall be appointed in that Behalf, the refpeftive Duties payable to His Majefty, His Heirs or SuccelTors for the fame, without any other Fee or Reward, and without Delay ; which Stamp or Mark fhall be a fufficient Difcharge for the feveral and refp. ftive Du- ties by this Aft payable for the faid Vellum, Parchment, or Paper, which fhall be fo ftamped or marked ; and if any Perfon or Perfons fhall ingrofs or write, or caufe to be ingroffed or written, upon any Vellum, Parchment, or Paper, any of the Matters or Things for which the faid Vellum, Parchment, or Paper ought to have a double or fingle Stamp or Mark, as aforefaid, before fuch Time as the faid Vellum, Parchmentj or Paper fhall be marked or ftamped with fuch double or fingle Mark or Stamp (as the Cafe requires) or upon which there fhall not be fome double or fingle Marks or Stamps (as the Cafe fliall require) refem- bling the fame, or fhall ingrofs or write, or caufe to be ingrofTed or written, any Matter or Thing, upon anyVellum, Parchment, or Paper, that fhall be marked or ftamped for any lower Duty or Duties, than the Duty or Duties by this and the faid former Afts, or either of them, payable for what Ihall be fo in- groffed or written ; fuch Perfon fo ofFending fhall fur every fuch Offence forfeit the Sum of ten Pounds (be- ndes Cofts of Suit) one Moiety of which Penalty often Pounds fhall be to the King, and the other Moiety thereof to him or them that will inform or fue for the fame, in any Court of Record, by Aftion of Debt, or of the Cafe, Bill, Plaint, or Information, v^herein no Effoin, Proteftion, Wager of Law, or more than one Imparlance, fliall be allowed : And in cafe any Clerk, Officer, or Perfon, who in refpeft of any publick Office or Employment is or fhall be intitled or intrufted to make, Ingrofs, or write any Records, Deeds, InPcruments, or Writings, charged to pay a Duty or Duties, as aforefaid, fhall be guilty of any Fraud or Praftice to deceive His Majefty, His Heirs or Succeffors, of any Duty by this or any of the faid former Afts payable, by making, ingrofling, or writing any fuch' Record, Deed, Inftrument, or Writing, or cauung the fame to be made, ingroffed, or written, upon Vellum, Parchment, or Paper, not marked or ftamped according to this Aft, or- upon which there fhall not be fome Stamp or Stamps refembling the fame, or upon Vellum, Parchment, or Paper, marked or ftamped with any Mark or Stamp which he fliall know to be counterfeited, or by ingrofiing or writing any fuch Deed, Inftrument or other Writing, upon Vellum, Parchment, or Paper, that fliall be marked or ftamped for a lov/er Duty, as aforefaid ; that then every fuch Clerk, Officer, or Perfon, fo guilty of any fuch Fraud or Praftice, and being thereof lawfully cenvifted fhall (over arid above the Penalty aforefaid) forfeit his Office, Place, or Employment refpec- tively, and be difabled to hold or enjoy the fame for the future ; and if any Attorney belonging to any Court ■ whatfoever, fhall be guilty of any fuch Fraud or Praftice, as aforefaid, and be convifted thereof, he fhall be difabled for the future to praftife as an Attorney : And if any Deed, Inftrument, or Writing whatfoever, by this Aft intended to be ftamped, as aforefaid, fhall, contrary to the true Intent and Meaning thereof, be written or ingroffed by any Perfon or Perfons whatfoever (not being a known Clerk or Officer, who in refpeft of any publick Office or Employment is or fliall be intitled to the making, writing, or ingroffing the fame) upon Vellum, Parchment, or Paper, not marked or ftamped, or not doubly flamped (as the Cafe may require) according to this Aft-, or upon Vellum, Parchment, or Paper, marked or ftamped for a lower Duty, as aforefaid ; that then'and in every fuch Cafe, there fliall be due, anfwered, and paid to His Majefty, His Heirs or Succeffors (over and above ths Duty aforefaid) for every fuch Deed, Inftrument, or Writing, the Sum of ten Pounds ; and that no fuch Record, Deed, Inftrument,' or Writing, fhall be plead- _ cd or given in Evidence in any Court, or admitted in any Court to be good, ufeful, or available in Law or Equity, until as well the faid Duty, as the fiud Sum ot ten Pounds, fhall be firft paid to the Ufe of His Majefty, His Heirs or Succeffors, and a Receipt produced for the fame, under the Hand or Kaj-ids of fome of the Officers which fliall be appointed to receive the Duties above mentioned, and until the Vellum, Parchment, or Paper, on which fuch Deed, Inftrument, or Writing, fliall be written or made, fhall be . marked or ftamped with r. lawful Mark or Stamp, or vith double Marks or Stamps, according to this Adf ; : and the proper Officer and Officers are hereby enjoined and required, upon Payment or Tender of the faid Duty,
