' J57HEREAS the Manufafture of Black Luftrings and Alamodes, Tet up by the Royal Luftring; jgll.y.c.ij^ ' VV Company, hath been very advantageous and beneficial to this Kingdom, by employing great Num- ' bers of the Poor, and preventing the Exportation of our Coin for purchaling of tnofe Commodities iti fo- ' reign Parts : And whereas notwithftanding the feveral Laws made for the Encouragement of the faid Ma- ' nufaiture, and for the preventing the Importation of fuch foreign Silks without paying the Duties charged ' thereon, great Quantities of the faid foreign Silks have been brought into this Kingdom, without paying ' any Duty or CiiKom for the fame ; by Means whereof the faid Royal Luftring Company have been very ' much difcouraged in the carrying on the faid Manufafture :' For Remedy whereof, and that the fr.id Com- pany may have all due Encouragement to enable them to proceed in fo good an Undertaking, Be it en- a6ted, and it is hereby enafted by the King's moft Excellent Majefty, by and v/ith the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, In this prefcnt Parliament aflembled, and by the Au- thority of the fame. II. And for the better preventing the fraudulent Importation of fuch Silks, without paying the Duties which are or fhall be due and payable for the fame ; Be it enafted by the Authority aforefaid. That the Commiflioners Commiflioners or Chief Managers of the Cuftoms in the faid Port of London for the time being, fhall and tofealAlamodesj are hereby authorized and required, from time to time, to mark and feal, or caufe to be marked and fealed, ^'^' i^npo'ted, all fuch Alamodes and Luftrings, which fhall, from and after the faid firft Day of July, be imported ac- cording to the DireiStions of this Aft, and to keep, or caufe to be kept an Entry or Regiftry thereof in the and keep anEn- Cuftom-houfe in the faid Port of London, in a Book to be provided for that Purpofe only, which faid Entry, try thereof. or Regiftry fhall be made without any Fee or Reward, before the faid Goods be delivered out of the Cuftom-houfe Warehoufe : And in cafe any of the faid Silks fhall be imported or brought into any Port or Alamodes, See, Place whatfoever within this Realm, other than the Port of London, or fhall be imported without fuch brought into any Notice firft given, and Licence taken out as aforefaid, and the Duties paid for the fame, or fhall not be fo other Port lor- fealed and marked as aforefaid, fuch Silks, or the full Value thereof, fhall be forfeited ; and all fuch Silks, ^^ ' which fhall be feized and forfeited by virtue of this or any former Aft, fhall be fold and exported, and and to be fold, the fame Rules and Methods fhall be obferved in the felling and exporting thereof, as are mentioned and ^^poitei and contained in- an Aft made in the eighth and ninth Years of the Reign of His prefent MajeftY, |^^'"' ^ intituled. And for the better preventing the Importation of the fame, in relation to Silks therein direfted to be Penalty on Per- exported, and all and every Perfon and Perfons whatfoever, who fhall import, bring or convey, or caufe or pro- fon importing cure to be imported, brought or conveyed into the Kingdom of England, Dominion of JVales, or Town of Alamodes, &c, Berwick upon Ttveed, any Alamodes or Luft-rings, contrary to the true Intent and Meaning of this Aft, or '^^^^^^ '° ' " who fhall knowingly receive or take the fame into his, her or their Houfe, Warehoufe, Cuftody or PofTcfKon, or fhall fell, barter or offer to Sale, or caufe to be fold or bartered, or offered to Sale any fuch foreign Silks fo Iraudulently imported, and all and every their Aiders, Abettors and Affiftants knov/ing thereof, fliall forfeit and lofe the Sum of fiv'e hundred Pounds. IV. And be it further enafted by the Authority aforefaid.
