And for the Payment of the feveral Regiments, Troops and Companies in England, hereby declared ^nd appointed to be difbanded, and for fupplying other necefiary Occafions of the Kingdom, and alfo for the Payment of the Arrears due to the Forces in Ireland, hereby appointed to be difbanded, during their Continuance upon the Englijh Eftabliftiment : Be it further enafted by the Authority aforefaid. That it (hall and may be lawful to and for any Perfon or Perfons, Natives or Foreia;ners, Bodies Politick or Cor- porate, to advance and lend to his Majefty, at the Receipt of his Majefty's Exchequer, any Sum or Sums of Money, not exceeding the Sum of eight hundred thoufand Pounds ; which Sum and Sums fo to be ad- vanced and lentj fhall and may be charged upon the Credit of his Majefty's Exchequer in general, and Tallies of Loan, and Orders for Repayment of the fame fliall be levied accordingly ; of which fald Sum of eight hundred thoufand Pounds, fo much fhall in the firft Place be applied for the paying ofF and dif- banding the Regiments, Troops and Companies within this Kingdom, hereby enacted to be difbanded, as fhall be fufHcient for that Service, and the Overplus fhall be afterwards applied for other necefiary Oc- cafions of the Kingdom; and all and every Sum and Sums of Money, fo to be advanced and lent, not exceeding the fame Sum of eight hundred thoufand Pounds, together with Interefl for the fame, not ex- ceeding the Rate of feven Pounds /i^r Centum fer Annum, to be paid every three Months, until SatisfaiSion of the Principal, fhall be payable, and be paid or fatisfied in courfe, according to the Days or Times of lending the fame, unto the refpeftive Lender or Lenders of the fame, hi^, her, or their Executors, Ad- miniflrators, SuccefTors or Afligns, out of the firflr Aids or Supplies granted or to be granted to his Ma-, jefty, in this prefent SefTion of Parliament ; and fhall immediately be transferred unto fuch Aid or Sup- ply J any thing in this prefent Adt, or any other Ait or Adts of Parliament contained to the contrary not- withflanding. Provided always, and be it enaited by the Authority aforefaid. That no Alien, who hath been, or at any time fhall be naturalized within the Kingdom of Ireland, by Virtue of any Act of Parliament made or to be made within that Kingdom, or by reafon of any A£t or Thing done or to be done in purfuance thereof, fhall be adjudged or reputed to be his Majefty's natural born Subjeft, within the Meaning of this A<£1; nor fhall any fuch Perfon fo naturalized, or to be naturalized, be capable of being continued within any Regiment, Troop or Company, which fhall be excepted by either of his Majefty's faid Proclamations. Provided always, and be it enaded by the Authority aforefaid, That in cafe any Regiments, Troops or Companies, or Parts of Regiments, Troops or Companies, which are to be difbanded, or difcharged from his Majefty's Service, by Virtue of this Aft, fhall be embarked, or ready to be embarked, to be tranfported beyond the Seas, and fhall be hindred by contrary Winds or Weather, beyond the faid. fix and twentieth Day oi March, no Perfon or Perfons fhall incur the faid Pains and Penalties by this Aft crdained, for fuch their Continuance together during fuch Hindrance, as aforefaid j any Thing herein to the contrary notwithftanding. C A P. II. An A61 to prevent the making or felling Buttons made of Cloth, Serge, Drugget, or other Stuffs. WHEREAS the Maintenance and Subfiftence of many Thoufands of Men, Women and Chil- dren, within this Kingdom, depends upon the makmg of Silk, Mohair, Gimp, and Thread Buttons with the Needle, and great Numbers ofThrowfters, Twifters, Spinners, Winders, Dyers and others, are employed in preparing the Materials of which fuch Buttons are made.: And whereas the Silk and Mohair, wherewith the laid Buttons are made, is purchafed in Turkey, and other foreign Parts, in Exchange for our Woollen Manufafture, to the great Confumption and Encouragement thereof: And whereas the making of fuch Needle-wrought Buttons hath of late been much lefTened and difcouraged by the making and w^earing of Buttons made of the Shreds of Cloth, Serge, Drugget, Frize, Camlet, and other StufFs and Materials of which Clothes are ufually made, and alfo by Buttons made of Wood only, and turned in Imitation of other Buttons ; to the great Impoverifhment of all thofe whofe Livelihood depended upon the making the faid Needle-wrought Buttons, and preparing the Ma- terials thereof; and to the great Prejudice of the Woollen Manufafture, wherewith fuch Materials are purchafed as aforefaid ; by which Means great Numbers of the faid poor People are become burdenfome to their refpeftive Parifhes:' For Remedy whereof be it enafted by the King's moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this pre- fent Parliament affembled, and by the Authority of the fame. That from and after the Tenth Day of Fe- bruary one thoufand fix hundred ninety and eight, no Perfon or Perfons whatfoever, within the Kingdom of England, Dominion of Wales, and Town of Berwick upon Tweed, fhall make, fell, or fet on, or caufe to be made, fold, or fet on any Clothes or wearing Garments whatfoever, any Buttons made of Cloth, Serge, Drugget, Frize, Camlet, or any other Stuffs of which Clothes and wearing Gar- ments are ufually made, or any Buttons made of Wood only, and turned in Imitation of other Buttons, upon Forfeiture of the Sum of Forty Shillings for every Dozen of fuch Buttons fo made, fold or fet on, or caufed to be made, fold or fet on as aforefaid, and in like Proportion for any lefTer Quantity ; one Moiety thereof to be to the Ufe of his Majefty, his Heirs and SuccefTors, and the other Moiety thereof to him, her or them that fhall fue for the fame, by Aftion of Debt, Bill, Plaint or Information, in any of his Majefty's Courts of Record, wherein no EfToin, Proteftion or Wager of Law, or more than one Imparlance fhall be allowed, CAP. m. An Aft to prohibit the Exportation of any Corn, Malt, Meal, Flour, Bread, Bifcuit or Starch for one Year, from the Tenth Day of February one thoufand fix hundred ninety eight. 3 Anno
