That every Barrel of Sope doth or ought to contain two hundred fifty a naiicl, S;c. of and fix Pcuiids; every Half Barrel, one hundied twenty and eight Pounds; every Firkin fixty and four Sope. Pounds; and every Half Firkin thirty and two Founds Jverdupois, befides the Weight or Tare of the 10 Ann;e, e. 16. Quaker, and the folemn Aflirm.ation of fuch Maker, Workman, or Servant to the fame EfFed, in cafe he or Ihe be a known ^tiakcr, fliall and may be taken inftead of fuch Oath ; and the faid Entries, Oaths, and Affirmations to ve- rify the fame, fhall, for fuch Sope as fliall be made within the Limits of the Weekly Bills of Mortality, be made with and adminiflred by fuch Officer or Officers as fliall be appointed by the Commiffioners for the faid Duties in England, or the major Part of them, for the time being, who fhall attend at a General Of- fice in London or JVcftminJler for that Purpofe, and for all Sope made in all other Parts ol Great Britain, with and by the Colledtors and Supervifors of the Diftrift or Divifion within which the refpeftive Makeig of Sope fhall inhabit, without any Fee or Charge whatfoever to be demanded or taken for the fame, r.ntriestobe X. And be it further enafted by the Authority aforefaid, That all and every the OfHcers for the faid terSopc-malters Duties On Sope, fhall, at all Times, by Day or by Night (and if in the Night-time, then in the Prefence Time" tor ke ^'" ^ Coirflable or Other lawful Officer of the Peace) be permitted, upon his or their Requeft, to enter the ail Acccuntof Houfe, Boil ing-houfe, Ware-houfe, or other Place whatfoever, belonging to, or ufed by any Perfon or the Sope. Perfons, vi^ho within or during the faid Tevm of thirty-two Years, fliall be a Maker or Makers of any Sope whatfoever, and by gauging or weighing of the Sope, or otherwife, as to fuch Officer fliall feem moft pro- per and convenient, to take an Account of the juft Quantity of the Sope which fliall have been made by and make a Re- iuch Maker Or Makers of Sope, from time to time ; and fliall thereof make Return or Report in Writing turn thereof to (q the refpeftive Commiffioners for the faid Duties on Sope, or fuch as they refpeftively fliall appoint to txJ'^^s^^T^ receive the fame, leaving a true Copy (if demanded) of fuch Report in Writing under his Hand, with or Copy with the fo"" ^"^h Maker or Makers of Sope refprftively ; and fuch Report or Return of the faid Officer or Officers Ma:cer, on Pe- fhall be a Charge upon fuch Maker or Makers of Sope refpediively ; and if the Officer fliall lefufe or ncg- paltyof^os. left to give or leave a true Copy of his Report in V/riting with or for fuch Maker or Makers of Sopc at the Time of taking fuch Account, upon Demand, as aforefaid, every fuch Officer, for every fuch Of- fence, fliall forfeit and pay the Sum of forty Shillings to every fuch Maker and Makers of Sope refpec- tively^ Officers to be XIlI. Provided always, That every Ofilcer who fhall be impowered to make fuch Charge, as aforefaid, fworn. fliall iji the firft Place be fworn for the due and faithful Execution of his Office; and th.e Oath in that Be- half fnall and m'^y be adminiflred by all or any the Commifficncrs of the faid Duties on Scpe, or by any cf Makers to keep her Majefly's Juflicesof the Peace, who fhall give to fuch Officers a Certificate thereof; and all and e'cry jiirtV^Teightf, on fuch Maker or Makers of Scpe refpectively, are hereby required to keep fufficient and juft Scales and Forfeiture cficl. Weights at the Place or Places where he, flie, or they do make fuch Sope, and permit and affift the Of- ficer to make Ufe thereof, for the Purpofes aforefaid, under the Penalty of ten Pounds, to be forfeited and loft for not keeping fuch Scales and V/eights, or for not permitting and affifting the Officer to ufe the fame, ... as aforefaid. XIV. And the better to prevent any Frauds and Concealments, v^hereby her Majefly, her Heirs or Suc- ceffbrs, may be injured or deprived of the Duties upon Sope granted by this Act; it is hereby likewife en- Ofncera to take acted and declared by the Authority aforefaid. That all and every the Officers for the faid Duties upon an Account of Sope, fnall alfo be permitted to take an Account by gauging, weighing, or otherwife, of the Qiian- &c ?n'MTkcr^' titles of Oil, Tallow, Pot-aflies, Lime, and other Materials proper to be made into Sope, that fliall be in Hand" &c '^" ^^^ Cuftody or PolTeflion of any Maker of Sope, during the Continuance of the faid Duties hereby granted ; ' ' and
