C. ig. 561 and eleven, and for which no Duty charged by the fame former Aft of Parliament hath been paid, the feveral and refpeftive Rates, Duties, and Sums of Money hereafter mentioned (that is to fay) for and upon every Pack of fuch Cards, the Sum of one Half-penny, and for and upon every Pair of fuch Dice, the Sum of fix Pence. CLXI. And be it further enafted by the Authority aforefaid, That all fuch playing Cards and Dice as Such Cards and were made and finifaed in Gnat Britain before the faid twelfth Day of June one thoufand feven hundred ^'■^'^^ h°th and eleven, fliall, before the firft Day of Atiguji one thoufand feven hundred and twelve, be brought to the s'tamVoffice^ faid Head Office for marking and ftamping of Vellum, Parchment, and Paper ; and upon Oath made that before i Aug. tlie fame were aftually made and finiflied in Great Britain, before the faid twelfth Day of yune one thou- 171*. to be fand feven hundred and eleven (which Oath the Commiflioners for the Stamp Duties, or any of them, or "larl'sJ. ^f- any Officer or Officers by them, or the m-.;jor Fart of them, thereunto to be appointed, is and are hereby jmpowered to adminifter) and upon Payment of the Duties hereby charged on the fame to the Receiver General laft-mentioned, or his Deputy or Clerk, the fame Commiffioners or their Officers, fliall caufe fuch Cards and Dice as are laft-mentioned, to be fealed, marked or flamped with fuch Seal, Mark, or Stamp as the fame Commiffioners fhall provide, to denote the Duties hereby charged on fuch Cards and Dice, and which the fame Commiffioners are hereby authorized and required to provide accordingly; and that all playing Cards and Dice which fhall not be brought to the faid Head Office to be fealed, marked, and ftamped, as aforefaid, and for which the Duties hereby charged, fhall not be paid, and touching which fuch Oath, as aforefaid, fhall not be made before the faid firft Day of Auguji one thoufand feven hundred and twelve, fhall be adjudged and deemed to be Cards and Dice made fince the eleventh Day of June one thou- fand feven hundred and eleven, and to be charged accordingly with the full Duties impofed by the faid former Aft. CLXII. And for the better fecuring her Majefty's Duties on playing Cards and Dice, and preventing NoCarcJsorDice the defrauding her Majefty thereof. Be it further enafted by the Authority aforefaid. That from and after ^o be fold or the firft Day of Auguji in the Year of our Lord one thoufand feven hundred and twelve, during the Conti- "'f '" any Ga- nuance of thofe Duties, no playing Cards or Dice fhall be fold or expofed to Sale, or ufed in Play in any before mTrWng publick Gaming-houfe, unlefs the Paper and Thread inclofing, or which fhall haveinclofed the fame, fhall on Penalty of 5 1. have been refpeftively fealed and ftamped, or marked according to the faid former Aft in that Behalf, and unlefs one of the Cards of each Pack or Parcel of Cards fo fold, fhall be alfo marked or ftamped on the fpotted or painted Side thereof, with fuch Mark or Marks as the Commiffioners for the time being, ap- pointed to manage the faid Stamp Duties, fhall direft or appoint ; upon Pain that every Perfon or Perfons q Anna?, c, a-, who fhall, from and after that Time, and during the Continuance of the fame Duties, fell or expofe to Sale any fuch Cards or Dice which fhall not have been fo refpeftively fealed, marked, and ftamped, as hereby, and by the former Aft of Parliament relating to the faid Duties, is refpeftively required, fhall forfeit for every Pack or Parcel of fuch Cards, and every one of fuch Dice fo fold or expofed to Sale, the Sum of five Pounds, befides Full Cofts of Suit, to be recovered and diftributed as the Penalties re- lating to the growing Duties impofed by the faid former Aft on Cards and Dice, are to be recovered and diftributed. CLXIII. And it is hereby further enafted. That if any Perfon or Perfons fliall at any Time or 1 imes Counterfeiting hereafter counterfeit or forge any Seal, Stamp, or Mark to refemble any Seal, Stamp, or Mark, which, in thofe Marks, purfuance of the faid former Aft, hath been provided, or in purfuance of the fame, or of this prefent Aft, '^^"y' Ihall be provided, to denote the Payment or charging of any the Duties on Cards or Dice by this or the faid former Aft payable, or ftiall counterfeit or refemble the Impreffion of the fame upon any Card or Dice, or any Thread or Paper inclofing any Cards, thereby to defraud her Majefty, her Heirs or Succeflbrs, of any the faid Duties upon Cards or Dice, or fliall utter, vend, or fell any Cards or Dice with fuch counterfeit Seal, Stamp or Mark, knowing the fame to be counterfeit, or fhall privately and fraudulently ufe any Seal, Stamp, or Mark, provided and ufed, or to be provided and ufed in purfuance of this Aft, or the faid former Aft, relating to the faid Duties upon Cards and Dice, fo as thereby to defraud her Majefty, her Heirs or Succeflbrs, of any of the faid Duties upon Cards or Dice ; then every fuch Perfon fo offend- ing, and being thereof convifted in the Form of Law, fliall be adjudged a Felon, and fhall fuffer Death as in Cafes of Felony, without Benefit of Clergy CLXIV. Provided alfo, and be it further enafted by the Authority aforefaid. CLXV. And it is hereby declared and enafted by the Authority aforefaid.
