T /|" O S T Gracious Sovereign ; Whereas by an Act of Parliament made in the ninth Year of the J.VJL Reign of her -late Majefty Queen Anne, intituled, An Ail for granting to her Majefty feverai " c Duties upon Coals, for building fifty new Churches in and about the Cities of London and Weftminfter, and ' Suburbs thereof and other Purpofes therein mentioned, it was enacted, That for all Sorts of Coals and ' Culm, which from and after the fourteenth Day of May one thoufand feven hundred and fixteen, and ' before the nine and twentieth Day of Septetnber one thoufand feven hundred and twenty-four, fhould be c imported and brought into the Port of the City of London, or the River of Thames, within the Liberty of
- the faid City upon the fame River, there fhould be paid to her faid late Majefty, her Heirs and Succef-
' fors, by way of Impofition thereupon, over and befides all other Impofitions and Duties, according to ' the Rates therein and herein after mentioned ; that is to fay, from and after the faid fourteenth Day of 6 May one thoufand feven hundred and fixteen, and before the nine and twentieth Day of September one 6 thoufand feven hundred and fixteen, for all fuch Sorts of Coals and Culm as are ufually fold by the ' Chalder, for every Chalder thereof, containing thirty-fix Bufhels Winchcjler Meafure, the Sum of two 4 Shillings ; and for fuch Sort of Coals as are fold by the Tun, for every Tun thereof, containing twenty ' hundred Weight, the Sum of two Shillings ; and from and after the eight and twentieth Day of September £ one thoufand feven hundred and fixteen, and before the eight and twentieth Day of September one thou- " fand feven hundred and twenty-four, there fhould be paid for every fuch faid Chalder of Coals and Culm, " and Tun of Coals, the Sum of three Shillings, the fame to be raifed, levied, collected and paid to her faid " late Majefty, her Heirs and Succeffors, as therein is mentioned : And it is thereby further enacted,
- That all and every fuch Sum and Sums of Money, which fhould be raifed, collected, and levied by vir-

4 fhould, from Time to Time, be brought and paid into the Receipt of Exchequer, and by Force and '"* Virtue of that A£t -were and fhould be appropriated, iffued, applied and difpofed, for the Building of ' fifty new Churches of Stone and other proper Materials, with Towers or Steeples to each of them ; ' whereof one was by the faid Act directed to be erected in the Parifh of Eafl Greenwich in the County of ' Kent; and for purchafing of Sites of Churches, and Church-yards, and Burying-places, in or near the
- Cities of London and Weftminfter, or the Suburbs thereof ; and for making fuch Chapels, as were then
- already built and capable thereof, Parifh-churches, and for purchafing Houfes for the Habitations of the
' Minifters of the faid Churches ; and for applying the Sum of four thoufand Pounds per Annum, out of ' the faid Duties and Impofitions, towards the repairing and finifhing the Collegiate Church of St. Peter
- Wejiminfter, and the Chapels of the fame ; and alfo for applying the Sum of fix thoufand PoundsJ^r An-
' num, out of the faid Duties and Impofitions arifing by that Act, towards the finifhing Greenwich Hofpital, s and the Chapels thereunto belonging, and to and for none other Ufe, Intent, or Purpofe whatfoever : 4 And it was thereby further enacted, That it fhould and might be lawful, to and for her faid late Maje- p. ' fty, by Letters Patent under the Great Seal of Great Britain, to nominate, conftitute, and appoint ■* fuch Perfons as her faid late Majefty fhould think fit to be Commillioners for the Purpofes in that Act
- mentioned ; which faid Commiffioners, or fo many of them as fhould by the faid Commiflion be autho-
' rized, are by the faid Act directed to enquire and inform themfelves, in what Parifhes the faid new
- Churches (except that for Greenwich) were moll neceflary to be built, and of proper Places for the Sites
- of the faid refpective new Churches, and alfo a Cemetery or Church-yard for each of the faid Churches,
' for the Burial of Chriftian People, to be purchafed ; and alfo which of the faid Chapels were fit to be c made Parifh-ohurches ; and to afcertain the feveral Houfes, Lands, Tenements and Hereditaments, and ' the Bounds and Limits which in their Judgments or Opinion might be fit to be made diftinct Parifhes j ' and to enquire and inform themfelves, by the beft Means they could, of the Value of fuch Houfes, '* Lands, Tenements, and Hereditaments, and of the refpective Eftates and Interefts therein, which they
- fhould think neceflary to be purchafed for the faid Sites and Cemeteries, and for Houfes for the Habita-
- tions of the refpective Minifters; and the faid Commiffioners were by the faid Act required on orbe-
- fore the four and twentieth Day of December one thoufand feven hundred and eleven, to report or certify
- to her faid late Majefty in Writing, under their Hands and Seals, fuch Matters and Things as fhould
4 appear to them upon their Enquiries aforefaid, with their Opinions thereupon, and prefent a Duplicate c -of fuch Report or Certificate to each of the two Houfes of Parliament, to the end fuch further Direc-
