An Aft for making perpetual Co much of an Aft made in the tenth Year of the Reign of Queen Anne., for the reviving and continuing feveral Afts therein mentioned, as relates to the building and repairing County Gaols ; and alfo an Aft of the eleventh and twelfth Years of the Reign of King William the Third, for the more effectual Suppreffion of Piracy ; and for making more effeftual the Aft of the thirteenth Year of the Reign of King Charles the Second, intituled, An AS for eftablifhing Articles and Orders for the regu- lating and better Government of his Majefty s Ships of War and Forces by Sea. jo Ann. c. 14., e I. TI^HEREAS in an Ad made in the tenth Year of the Reign of Queen Anne, intituled, An Ad &Q l z * V V for the reviving and continuing feveral Ails therein mentioned^ for the preventing of Mi f chiefs -which ' may happen by Fire ; for building and repairing County Gaols ; for exempting of Apothecaries from ferving Parijh and Ward Offices, and ferving upon Juries ; and relating to the returning of Jurors, there is a Clauie relating to the building and repairing County Gaols, which by Experience has been found^ery ufeful and beneficial to the Publick, and will expire at the End of this prefent Seffion of Parliament :' Be it _ecked^a as" therefore enafted by the King's moll Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords relatesto County Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this prefent Parliament afTembled, and by the Authority of the Gaols, made fame, That fo much of the faid Aft made in the tenth Year of the Reign of Queen Anne, as relates to the perpetual. building and repairing County Gaols, fliall be and is hereby made perpetual. 19 El. c. 17. And whereas Vagrants and other Criminals, Offenders and Perfons charged with fmall Offences, 7 Jac. i. c. 4. <■ are f or f uc h Offences, or for want of Sureties, to be committed to the County Gaol, it being adjudged, ' that by Lav/ the Juftices of the Peace cannot commit them to any other Prifon for fafe Cuftody, which Jufhcesof Peace ' by Experience hath been found to be very prejudicial and expenfive :' Be it enacted by the Authority ^ants™'Tto 3 " aforefeid, That it fhall and may be lawful to and for the Juftices of the Peace within their refpeftive Ju- rhe Common rifdiftions, to commit fuch Vagrants and other Criminals, Offenders, Perfon and Perfons, either to the Gaol or Houie Common Gaol or Houfe of Correction, as they in their Judgment fhall think proper; any Law, Cuftom of Correction. or Ufage to the contrary notwithftanding. Years of the Reign of his late Majefty King William the Third, intituled, An Ail for the more cffeclual made perpetual. Suppreffion of Piracy, fliall be and is hereby made perpetual. " Perfons in the Sea-fervice, who fhall commit any of the Crimes mentioned in 13 Car. 2. Stat. r. c. 9. " upon the Shore in foreign Parts, fhall be tried and punifhed as if they had been committed on the main " Sea." Rep. 22 Geo. 2. c. 33* CAP. XX. An Aft for continuing the Afts formerly made for repairing the Highways in the County of Hertford therein mentioned, and for making the faid Afts more effectual. PR* Repealed in Part After Nov. 4, 1722, the Tolls by the Aft 15 Car. 2. c. i. to be taken at Wadefmill, fhall be continued, by 6 Geo. 2. ; n Manner as by the recited Afts, for 15 Years ; and the Money to be applied to repair the Highways EX 4 p and m ^ e County of Hertford. But on an Adjudication at the Affizes or Seffions that the Ways are in good Repair, the Toll fhall ceafe. The Officers, &c. impowered by the former Ails, fhall from Nov* 2, 1722, have the like Powers by virtue of this Aft : And all Claufes, cjfV. fhall be continued* C A P. XXI.
