An Act for repairng and widening the road leading from the Black Bull in Dunstable in the county of Bedford, to the Way turning out of the said Road up to Shafford-House in the county of Hertford.

CAP. XII. An- Act for the more eafy Affigning or Transferring certain redeemable Annuities, payable at the Exchequer, by Endorfements on the Handing Orders for the fame. H E R E A S in and by an Act of Parliament of the fixth year of his prefent Majefty's Reign, 6 Geo. 1. 11, (for laying a Duty on wrought Plate, and other Purpofes therein mentioned) amongfl other Things it was enacted, That the Contributors for the Purchafe of the Annuities thereby directed to be fold, Ihould, upon Payment of their whole Purchafe-Money, have Orders for the Payment of their faid Annuities, until Redemption thereof by Parliament : And whereas by another Act of Parliament of the 6 Geo. 1. c. 17. faid fixth Year of his prefent Majefty's Reign, intituled, An Ail for appointing Commijfioners to examine, fate and determine the Debts due to the Army, and to examine and fate the Demands of ' fever al foreign Princes and States, for Subfidies during the late War ; and alfo in and by another Act of Parliament of the feventh 7Geo.i.Stat. 1, Year of his faid Majefty's Reign, intituled, An Ail for appointing GommiJJioners to examine, fate and de- c> S°- termine the Debts due to the Army, amongfl: other Things it was enacted, That the Commiffioners of his Majefty's Treafury fhould be impowered to ilTue ftanding Orders for paying at the Receipt of the Ex- chequer, the Annuities for the Principal Sums contained in the Debentures by the faid two laft men- tioned Acts refpectively directed to be made forth : And whereas by anotherAdt of Parliament of the 8 Geo. 1. c, 10, eighth Year of his prefent Majefty's Reign (For paying off" and cancelling one million of Exchequer- '• 4 3- Bills, and other Purpofes therein mentioned) amongfl: other Things it was enacted, That the Com- miffioners of his Majefty's Treafury ihould be impowered to iffue ftanding Orders for paying at the Receipt of Exchequer, the Annuities for the Principal Sums contained in the Debentures therein re- cited to have been made forth for the Sufferers at Nevis and Saint Chrifophers ; and by the faid feveral Acts it was enacted, That the faid feveral Annuities fhould be deemed to be perfonal Eftates, and the refpective Proprietors thereof ihould have Power to affign or devife his or their Eftate of and in any fuch Annuity, or any Part thereof, and fo toiies quoties ; and that no fuch Affignment fhould be revocable, fo as an Entry or Memorandum of fuch Affignment or Will fhould be made in Books kept for that Pur- pofe, in the Office of the Auditor of the Receipt of Exchequer, within three Months after fuch Align- ment or Death of the Devifor ; and that upon producing fuch Affignment or Will, or Probate thereof, in the faid Office of Receipt to be entred as aforefaid, the Party fo producing the fame, fhould bring therewith an Affidavit, taken before one of his Majefty's Juftices of the Peace, of the due Execution of the faid Affignment or Will ; which Affidavits fhould be feverally filed in the faid Office, as by tiie faid Acts of Parliament (Relation to them refpectively being had) more fully may appear : And whereas the Method prefcribed by the faid Acts for affigning the faid Annuities, and producing therewith Affidavits taken before one of his Majefty's Juftices of the Peace, of the due Execution of fuch Alignments, is found to be chargeable, troublefome and inconvenient to the Proprietors thereof, and 'tis doubted whe- ther Alignments by Endorfements on fuch Orders are good and available in Law ; which has occafioned large Difcounts thereon, to the Prejudice of publick Credit :' For Remedy thereof, Be it enacted by the King's raoft Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Tem- Affignmentsmay poral, and Commons, in this prefent Parliament affembled, and by the Authority of the fame, That the be made by l-.i- "refpedtive Proprietors of the faid ftanding Orders, made forth or to be made forth, in Purfuance of the dorfementonche- faid Acts, or any or either of them, fhall or may from time to time, by proper Words of Affignment to ©rdci. be endorfed on his, her or their Order, affign or transfer his, her or their Right, Title, Intereft and Be- nefit of fuch Order or Orders to any other Perfon or Perfons > which being notified in -the Office of Audi- tor
