The Act 3 Geo. i. for repairing the Highways from Counter's Bridge, &c. which commenced from the firft of July one thoufand feven hundred and Seventeen, and was to continue in Force for the Term of eleven Years, and alfo the Tolls thereby granted, are further continued for feventeen Years, [Fur- ther continued by u Geo. z. c. 6.] PR. An Act: for making more effectual an Act made in the ninth Year of his Majefty's Reign, intituled, An Ail for completing the Repairs of the Harbour of Dover in the County of Kent ; and for reftoring the Harbour of Rye in the County 0/Suffex, to its ancient Goodnefs, to far as the fame relates to the Harbour of Rye. [ 'ITT H E R E A S it has been judged neceflary that the Harbour of Rye in the County of Sujfex fhould 9 Gs »' *« c ' S*» ' W be preferved for the Benefit of Trade and Navigation : And whereas An Act parted in the ninth ' Year of his Majefty's Reign, intituled, An Alt for completing the Repairs of the Harbour of Dover in the 1 County o/"Kent, and for rejhring the Harbour fl/~Rye in the County of Sufiex, to its ancient Goodnefs, by ' which Act a Duty of three Pence per Tun upon Shipping, granted and continued by former Acts there-

  • in mentioned for the Repair of Dover Harbour, was granted or continued for a further Term therein

' mentioned, as well for completing the Repairs of the faid Harbour of Dover, as for reftoring the faid ' Harbour of Rye to its ancient Goodnefs, which was then propofed and intended to be done by letting

' pedient to reftore the faid Harbour of Rye : And whereas fince the palling of the faid Act it is found, ' that the faid Harbour of Rye may be made more ufeful and commodious by opening and making a new 8 Cut or Channel from the Winchelfea Channel, right out to the Sea, which will be of greater Ufe and

  • Benefit to the Trade and Navigation of this Kingdom, than if the Method propofed by the faid recited

' Act fhould be purfued ; but as it is doubted whether the Powers given by the faid recited Act do ex- ' tend to the making any new Cut or Channel elfewhere than in the Places therein mentioned, and it ' is neceflary to explain and amend the faid Act :' May it therefore pleafe your moft Excellent Majefty, that it may be enacted, tefc. " The Powers in the Act 9 Geo. 1. for repairing Rye Harbour, transferred to the Perform herein named, j" who are to do all Works neceflary for the Purpofes of the Act. The Duties not liable to make good any Damage " through the Default of the Commiflioners of Sewers. The Sea fhall not be let into the new Cut, till " all the Works be perfected.
