Doors of fuch Houfe, Work-houfe or other Place whatfoever, are not immediately opened, and if fuch Officer or Officers arc not immediately admitted, and permitted to enter and go into any Houfe, Work- houfe or other Place whatfoever, belonging to or made ufe of by either any fuch profefled Chandler or Maker of Candles for Sale, or by fuch private Makers of Candles, not being Compounders ; and if Penally for ob- fuch Officer or Officers, being fo entred into inch Houfe, Work-houfe or other Place or Pia.es whatfo- (1 ' ruai,; i- ,)th - ever, all Chefts, Trunks, Boxes, Drawers or other like Things, are not upon the Demand or Ps.equell ccr * ' of fuch Officer or Officers immediately opened, or if fuch Officer or Officers is not permitted quietly to fearch and examine all fuch Houfes, Work-houfes or other Places whatfoever, and alfo all Chefts, Trunks, Boxes, Drawers or other like Thing or Things there found ; or if by keeping fuch Monies, Work-houfes or other Places, or fuch Cherts, Trunks, Boxes, Drawers or other Thing or Thi locked or otherwife faltned ; or if by any other Ways or Means whatfoever, fuch Officer or Officers fhall be obftructcd from or hindered or molcfled in fuch fearching and examining any fuch Houfe, Work-houfe or other Place whatfoever, or fuch Chclt, Trunk, Box, Drawer or other like Thing or Things whatfo- ever; that then and in every fuch Cafe and Cafes the Offender therein fhall forfeit and lofe the Sum of one hundred Pounds. ' XXV. And whereas Excife-Officers coming to fearch the unentred Houfes, Work-houfes and other ' Places of private and clandestine Makers of Candles for Sale, are by one Means or other kept out of
- and not permitted to enter or go into fuch unentred Houfes, Work-houfes or Places, until either a
' Stop is put to the Work there going on, or until the Candles there privately made or making are car- ' ried off, but upon fuch their Searches do find fuch other Circumitances and Things in fuch Poiture f and Condition, as fufficiently demonstrate that at fuch Time and Times fuch private making of Can- ' dies was carrying on, or juft before had been there carried on ;' Be it therefore enacted and declared by If Officer, on the Authority aforefaid, That if from and after the faid twenty-fourth Day of "June one thoufand feven fearching an un- -hundred and twenty-five, any Excife-Officer or Officers, on his or their fearching any unentred Houfe, ^ r ntre i¥. oufe ' Workhoufe or Place, fhall find Candles, either made or making, or fhall find Tallow or other Materials C j n( ji eS) &c " it for making Candles, melting or then melted, or Cottons or Rufb.es fpread for the making of Candles, or (hall be fufficient any Copper or other Veffel or Utenfil for melting Tallow to be made into Candles, or any Mould or Evidence to con- other Utenfil for the dipping or making Candles, warm with Tallow, or other Materials for the making via the of - Candles, remaining at the Bottom or about the Sides of fuch Copper, Mould or other VeiTel or Utenfil {eaier ' as aforefaid, fuch finding in fuch unentred Houfe, Work-houfe or other Place, fuch Tallow or other Materials for making Candles, fo melting or melted, or fuch Cottons or Rufhes fo fpread, or any fuch Copper, Mould or other Veffel or Utenfil warm with Tallow, or other Materials remaining at the Bot- tom or about the Sides of fuch Copper, Mould or other Veffel or Utenfil as aforefaid, fhall be deemed to be and hereby is declared to be fufficient Evidence to convi£t every the Offender or Offenders, in every fuch Cafe and Cafes, of having at that Time made Ufe of fuch Houfe, Work-houfe or other Place, or of fuch Copper, Mould or other Veffel or Utenfil, and to fubject and make him, her or them, where the fame, or any of the Particulars before mentioned, fhall be found, liable to the aforefaid Penalty and For- Penalty iool. future of one hundred Pounds, for having at fuch Time and Times made Ufe of them, every or any of them, without having made fuch Entry or Entries thereof as is before required ; unlefs the Party or Par- ties profecuted for the fame fhall give to the Commiffioners or Justices refpectively before whom fuch Profecution fhall depend or be depending, fuch Satisfaction therein as fhall to them refpeetively appear to be fufficient to acquit him, her or them of and from the fame. ' XXVI. And whereas fuch private and clandestine Makers of Candles for Sale as aforefaid, do affume •* to themfelves, and are called by other than their true Names, and when difcovered, to avoid being pro- ' fecuted for the fame, do withdraw and abfeond themfelves, that they may not perfonally have Notice of

Copper, Mould or other Veffel or Utenfil as aforefaid, for making Candles for Sale, directed to fuch Perfon or Perfons by his, her or their right or affirmed Name or Names, fhall be deemed to be, and is hereby declared to be as legal and effectual Notice and Summons, to all Intents and Purpofes, as if fuch Notice or Summons was perfonally given or delivered to or into the Hands of the Party or Parties for whom the fame fhall be defigned, and as if fuch Notice or Summons was directed to the Party or Parties to and for whom the fame fhall be defigned, by his, her or their proper Name or Names. XXVII.
