C A P. XXIV. An Act for preventing Frauds and Abufes in the Dying Trade. i I. II'HEREAS divers Peifons within this Realm, ufing the Myftery or Craft of Dyers, have of late tj BK c. 9. - VV iifed and exercifed fa lie and deceitful Ways in Dying Bays and other Woollen Mack, '3 '- ' 4 Car. «. Penalty. For every Cokbejier Bays or fhort Bays, containing thirty-five Yards or upwards, the Sum of twenty-two Shillings, and fo in Proportion for any greater or lefs Quantity of any fuch Bays, or of any other Wool- len Goods falfly or deceitfully mathered or pretended tobemathered as aforefaid. For every Cloth falfly and deceitfully dyed black without being woaded throughout, containing forty-four Yards or more, the Sum of forty Shillings. For every Piece of Bays falfly and decietfully dyed as aforefaid, containing feventy Yards or upwards, thirty Shillings. For every Colchejler or Short Bays, containing thirty-five Yards or upwards, twelve Shillings. For every Perpetuana or Stuff, falfly and deceitfully dyed as aforefaid, the Sum of four Shillings, and fo in Proportion for any other Woollen Goods falfly and deceitfully dyed, as and for woaded Blacks as aforefaid. . II. And be it enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That all Woollen Goods and Manufactures which fhall Woollen Goods be truly mathered Black, according to the Directions of this Act, fhall be marked with a red Rofe and a t"'^"^"^' blue Rofe, and all Woollen Goods and Manufactures which fhall be truly woaded black throughout, according w ; tn a ,cd and to the Directions of this Act, fhall be marked with a blue Rofe only ; and if any Perfon or Perfons what- bh;e Rofe, and! foever fhall, after the faid twenty-fourth Day of June, counterfeit or forge, or caufe to be counterfeited or truly woaded forged any of the faid Marks, or fhall dye, ftain, imprint or affix any fuch Mark or Marks to any of the ?! sck .{ ? lth a Woollen Goods or Manufactures aforefaid, falfly and deceitfully dyed as or for Mather or Woaded Blacks ue as aforefaid, every fuch Offender fhall, for every fuch Offence, forfeit and pay four Pounds for every Piece Penalty for for- of Goods to which the faid Mark or Marks fhall be affixed as aforefaid. , 6 ln e Ma f-ts. III. And be it enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That if after the faid twenty- fourth Day of June any Penalty for ufing Perlon or Perfons whatsoever fhall ufe or caufe to be ufed, any Logwood in dying of blue, every fuch Perfon Lrgwood in dy- fhall, for every fuch Offence, forfeit and pay the Sum of forty Shillings for every Piece of Cloth fo dyed, ln s b ' uc> in Length twenty-four Yards or more, and fo in Proportion for all other Sorts of Woollen Goods dyed blue with Logwood, contrary to this Act. IV.
