XII. And be it further enacted by the Authority aforefkid, That when any Perfon or Perfons fhall offer Stamp ma&er to ^ any Cloth to be infp.'ctsd and ftamped in Manner herein after directed, the Stamp-mafter or Lapper that ""'k chejuft fhall be appointed for that Purpofe, in fuch Manner as hereafter is mentioned, fhall, after infpedting the p eng j h . s 3n f Cloth,, meafure the fame, and mark upon each end thereof the juft Length or Number of Yards each Piece ^[ CQt:s contains, and fhall likewife mark upon each end of the Piece the Breadth of fuch Piece he fhall find upon meafuring thereof; and if any Piece, which fhall be offered to be ftamped as of five Eighths of a Yard broad, comes fhort of that Breadth in any Part of fuch Piece, that then the faid Piece of Cloth ihall be marked as of the next lower Denomination, videlicet. Half-yard, and fo of all the other Breadths herein - mentioned. XIII. And to the Intent that every Buyer of plain, brown or white Linen Cloth, may the eafier difcover Weaver-to run a ■ and judge of the Goodnefs, Quality and Value thereof, and may know the exact Number of Threads in coarfe Thread the Breadth or Warp thereof, Be it further enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That from and after the faid [ >"°ugh every firft Day of November every Weaver fhall at the End of every fuch Piece of Cloth,, which he fhall weave 2 1 °°,l, h ' eads °f or caufe to be weaved, run or caufe to be run, a coarfe coloured Thread through every two hundred Threads anotherThrcueh. ■ of the Warp, of the faid Cloth, fo as to diftinguifh the Number of hundreds of Threads in the Breadth every 40 Thitfds ; of the faid Cloth, and alio another coarfe coloured Thread as aforefaid within a Quarter of an Inch of of the Warp, the former, in like Manner through every forty Threads of the Warp of the faid Cloth, fo as to diftinguifh at tllc EniJs - ' the Number of Biers or Scores of Threads in the Breadth of the faid Cloth ; and in cafe any Weaver fhall omit to weave or caufe to be weaved, fuch Threads as aforefaid, or fhall fo mark his Cloth with a coloured Thread, as to make it appear to contain more Threads in the Breadth, than it really does, he fhall for every fuch Offence, being thereof convicted in Manner after mentioned, forfeit a Sum not more than five Pounds, nor lefs than twenty Shillings, to the Ufe of the Informer, to be levied and recovered in fuch Manner as is herein after mentioned. 4 XIV. And whereas feveral Perfons have of late Years made Ufe of Lime, Pigeons Dung, Sope-Dregs, 4 or other improper Materials for whitening or bleaching of Linen Cloth, to the great Prejudice of fuch ' Cloth, and to the Difcredit of the Linen Manufacture ;' For preventing fuch Practices for the Future, Penalty for tiling- • .Be it further enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That from and after the faid firft Day of November no Lime, Pigeons. Perfon or Perfons fhall make Ufe of any Lime, Pigeons Dung or Sope-Dregs, for bleaching or whitening D.;ng, tc. for any Linen Cloth or Linen Yarn, and that all and every Perfon and Perfons ufing any Lime, Pigeons Dung blcac h;ng of . or Sope-Dregs, for bleaching or whitening any Linen Cloth or Linen Yarn, fhall, being thereof duly con- !nen ' victed in fuch Manner as herein is after mentioned, for every fuch Offence, forfeit to the Informer the faid Linen Cloth or Linen Yarn, fo whitened or bleached with Lime, Pigeons Dung or Sope-Dregs, and fhall alio forfeit the Sum of five Pounds Sterling^ to the Ufe of the Informer; and in cafe the Linen Cloth or Linen Yarn, fo whitened contrary to the Directions of this Act, fhall not be found, it fhall and may be lawful to and for the Juftice of Peace or Magiftrate within any Borough, before whom fuch Complaint fhall be made, to fet a further Fine upon the Offender at his Difcretion, not exceeding the Sum of five Pounds Sterling, to be raifed and levied, together with the former Penalty of five Pounds, in fuch Manner as- herein is after directed ; and the Offender fhall alfo be and is hereby made incapable to bleach or whiten any Linen Cloth or Linen Yarn, for the Space of two Years after fuch Conviction as aforefaid. ' XV. And whereas the Improvement of the faid Linen Manufacture- depends very much upon putting Magiftrates may--. • ' an end to this pernicious Practice, and in preventing the mixing and felling ot damnified Hempfeed or fummon Ser- ' Lintfeed,', Be it further enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That it fhall and may be lawful to and for vantsof Bleachv- any one or more of his Majefty's Juftices of the Peace, or any Magiftrate or Magiftrates within any Bo- j[ s ' q 3 !?"" 5 rough, within their refpeclive Jurisdictions, by a Writing under his or their Hands, to fummon the Ser- vant
