  • and Difficulties and Difputcs have arifen, and may yet arife, touching the Import and Meaning of the faid

' Claufe or Provifo in the faid Acts, by reafon that the aforefaid Dues or Petty Port Cuftoms, intended ' thereby to be difcontinued, are not therein particularly fpecified and defcribed, fo as the fame may be iii- ' ftinguifhed from fuch other Parts of the Petty Cuftoms belonging to the faid City, as were not intended ' by the faid Claufe or Claufes in the Acts aforefaid, or either of them, to be difcontinued :' Therefore for explaining thereof, and for preventing any Doubts or Difputcs for the future, Be it enacted by the King's moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this prefent Parliament affembled, and by the Authority of the fame, That fuch Parts Petty Pert Cu- of the aforefaid Petty Port Cuftoms, to be difcontinued as aforefaid, -fhall be and they are hereby limited and ftoms defcribed. reftrained to the Cuftoms ufually levied and collected at any Gate or Gates, Avenue or Avenues of the faid City of Edinburgh, lor fuch Ale, Beer, Wines, Spirits and foreign Liquors as fhall be brought in there for private Ufe, and not for Sale, and for all Manner of Vivers, all Grain, great or frnall, cf any Kind, and for all Hay, Grafs, Straw, Lint, Lint-feed and Rape-feed of the Growth of Great Britain, and Wool and Wool manufactured, Skins and Hides dreffed and undreffed, and for Linen Cloth of all Sorts, being the Produce of Great Britain, and for Meal, Malt and Cheefe, and for all Stones, Lime, Timber and all other Materials for building, all Coals, Peits, Turfs, Tallow and all Manner of Houfhold Furniture which fhall be brought into the laid City of Edinburgh or Liberties thereof, by Plorfes, Carts, Carriages, Sledges, Slypes or any other Manner of way. II. Provided always, and be it enacted, That if any Perfon or Perfons fhall prefume to demand or take Demanding .-my any Duty for any of the Goods herein before fpecified and defcribed (except as herein is after excepted) Duty ! Cr Cuois every fuch Perfon and Perfons, being ther.eof lawfully convicted before any Judge competent, fhall forfeit _ e " s^/^l' 6 '" and pay the Sum of twenty Shillings Sterling to the Owner or Owners of fuch Goods, for which any Duty fhall be demanded and taken. III. Pa >' ,T "- rt cf the faid City ; and alfo all Duties chargeable on all Ale, Beer, Wine, Spirits and foreign Liquors which are " es j lere enu " for Sale ; and all Duties chargeable upon all Coals, Peits, Turfs and Timber to be imported or brought in from Leith into the faid City or Liberties thereof by Carts, Sledges or Slypes ; and alfo ail Duties charge- able upon Hearfes and Hackney Coaches, and. all Duties upon all Sugars, Tobaccoes and Soap ; and the Duties chargeable upon all Timbers, Lint, Lint-feed and Rape-feed not of the Produce of Great Brit, and on all Hemp, Iron, Tar and other foreign Commodities which lhall be brought in on Carts, Sledges or Slypes, Plorfes Burthens or any other Manner of way whatfoever, into the faid City or Privileges thereof, from every Place ; and the Duties on all Goods whatfoever, other than thofe particularly exempted from the fame as before-mentioned, which fhall be brought in on Carts, Sledges or Slypes, into the faid City or Li- - berties thereof, by any Perfon who is a common Carter ; and that the faid City fhall continue to enjoy, levy rnd receive the other Cuftoms and Duties to them belonging, as particularly after fpecified, videli f, the Meal and Corn Market Cuftoms, the Fifli Market Cuftoms, and Board Mails, the Fru-it Market Cuft the Poultry and Bread Market Cuftoms, Stand and Board Mails, the Land Cloth Market, the Land 1 Market Cuftoms, the Dues and Cuftoms of the Tallow, Iron, Weighage, the Cuftoms chargeable on all Sorts of Cattle at the Houfe of the Muir, and Sheep Flaikes, the Cuftom of one Mark upon each Pack of all foreign Goods, the Cuftom of Bufh Mail for all Timber and other Goods brought into the Timber Hoff or Bufh at Leith, the Shore Dues, one Mark per Tun of Goods and oilier Duties payable for all Go imported to or exported from the Harbour of Leith, the Duties and Cuftoms payable for Weighage and |e, and of all Goods whatever weighed or lodged in the Weigh-houfes of Edinburgh or Leith, trie . ket Cuftom for Leather, and the Import or Duty on Wines, Spirits or foreign Lfquors, with all other Du- ties and Cuftoms belonging to the faid City not hereby exprefiy difcontinued as aforefaid ; and that the I 4 Q_2 feveral
