An Act for granting and continuing the Duties upon Salt, and upon Red and White Herrings, for the further Term of four Years ; and for giving further Time for the Payment of Duties omitted to be paid for the Indentures and Contracts of Clerks and Apprentices. The Duties on Salt further con- tinued for 4 Years, after Expiration of the 7 Years granted by the laft recited Act. EXP. Made perpetual 26 Geo. II. c. 3. ' II. And whereas by a certain Claufe in an Act of Parliament patted in the firft Year of the Reign of A Claufe in the her late Majefty Queen Anne, intituled, An Ail for preventing Frauds in the Duties upon Salt, ami for & a jJ Aa « the better Payment of Debentures at the Cujlom-houfe, it is enacted, That from and after the four and c.n. explained! twentieth Day of 'June one thoufand feven hundred and two, no Rock Salt whatfoever ihall be re- fined or made into White Salt in any Place or Places whatloever within the Kingdom of England, Dominion of Wales, or Town of Berwick upon Tweed (except fuch Places as are or fhall be within ten Miles Diftance of the refpective Pit or Pits from waence fuch Rock Salt lhall be taken, or at . fuch Places as upon or before the tenth Day of May one thoufand leven hundred and ' two, (hall have been u'ed for the refining of Rock Salt) und.r the Pain of forty (hillings for every 1 Bufhel of Rock Salt that (hall be melted or refined in any Houfe, Place or Places not by the faid Act allowed for that Purpofe, and fo in Proportion for a greater or letter Quantity : And whereas fome Doubts and Difputes have ari'en, or may hereafter arife, whether the Miles mentioned in the faid-. Act, are to be computed according to the Statute Meafure, or the common Eftimation of the refpec- 1 tive Places or Counties, in which the Pit or Pits, from whence fuch Rock Salt (hall be tiken, is, ' ate (hall be fituate and being ;' Njw, for the clearing, obviating and removing all fuch Doubts and Difputes, Be it enacted and declared by the Authoiity aforefaid, That the Miles therein mentioned (hall, be underftood and taken, and are hereby declared to be according to the common Eftirmtion of the re- ,'pective Counties or Places, where fuch Pit or Pits is, are or (hall happen to be, and not according to ■the Statute or any other Meafure ; any thing in the faid Act, or any other Act concerning the Duties, upon Salt, contained to the contrary thereof notwithftanding.
- ' III. And whereas by an Act made in the fifth Year of the Reign of his late Majefty King George 5 Geo. i.e. i&.
' the Firft, intituled, An Ail for recovering the Credit of the Britifti Fi/hery in foreign Parts, and for better 1 fecuring the Duties on Salt, it is enacted, That the Curers of Fifh be allowed to import foreign Salt for 1 the curing of Fifh for Exportation without paying any Duty to his Majefty (except the Cuftoms pay- ' able upon the Importation thereof J fuch foreign Salt being landed and weighed in the Prefence of an- ' Officer for the Duties on Salt, and being lodged in a Warehoufe under the Lock and Key of the faid 1 Officer, as well as the Proprietor of fuch Salt ; and fuch foreign Salt, fo lodged in the joint Cuftody of ' the Officer and Proprietor, is to be delivered over, at the Beginning of the ieveral fittiing Seafons, into [ the fole Cuftody of fuch fuch Proprietor, or his Agents, upon his or their making Oath in Writing be-- ifore fuch Officer in Manner and to the Effect therein directed, who at the End of every fifhing Seaion are thereby required to make particular Accounts of the Quantities remaining in their Hands, to be. immediately lecked up in the joint Cuftody of the Officer and Proprietor, or his Agents, as aforefaid, 1 and to deliver in a particular Account in Writing, as foon as pcftibk, after the End of every fi thing Sea- I fon, to the Office fcr the Duties on Salt, of the Quantities of Fifh exported, or entered and.
