' Sugar Houfes in Scotland •, and for making an Allowance for Salt hfl in any Harbouf or River of thii ' Realm; and for the better fecuring the Duti-.s on Salt delivered in Scotland, it is enacted, That fuch ■' Account of the faid Quantities of foreign Salt employed for the Ends and Purposes aforefaid, (hall ' be made and delivered in within three Months alter the Expiration of each Year, in Manner and ' under the Penalties therein directed : And whereas great Frauds have been committed, to the Di- ' minution of the Revenue, and to the Prejudice of the Britifo Salt Works, by the Importation of ' foreign Salt for curing of Fifh for Exportation, without Payment of the Duties, by Perfons of no •' Fortune or Credit, who pretending to be Proprietors, have at the Beginning of every fifhing Seafon

' aforefaid, but who fell and difpofe of fuch foreign Salt for Inland Confumption, and to avoid being ' brought to any Account, abfeond and withdraw themfelves from the Law : ' To remedy therefore After 2+ June fuch Inconveniencies, be it enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That from and after the twenty-fourth •7-!5> jKJjjjS" Day of June in the Year of our Lord one thoufand feven hundred and thirty-five, no foreign Salt (hall leiiv'ereHfor be delivered over from the joint Cuftody of the Officer and Proprietor into the fole Cuftody of the Pro- curing Fifh for prietor or his Agent, for curing Filh for Exportation, except he or they do give Security, to the Sa- Ex^ortatkm, tisfaction of the chief Officer of the Salt Duty in the Port where fuch Salt lhall be imported, that he or they (hall and will account for the foreign Salt fo by him or them to be received, in the Terms of and accoiding to the true Intent and Meaning of the faid recited Acts made in the fifth and eighth < ears of his laid late Majefty's Reign, or fliall anfwer the feveial Penalties in the faid Acts directed to be recovered from, the Proprietor offending againft the feveral Acts or either of them. ' IV. And whereas the Cuftom which hath prevailed in that Part of Great Britain called Scctland, of ' paying the Servants at Salt Works their Wages in Salt, hath been the Occafion of feveral Frauds and No Servants ' Embezilments;' For preventing whereof, be it enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That from and after employed m the t j twenty-fourth Day of June in the Year of our Lord one thoufand feven hundred and thirty-five. Preamble. « TT7HEREAS divers Perfons have by their own Genius, Induftry, Pains and Expence, invented
