4 his Anceftors) were by the faid recited Act laid upon fuch Goods, Merchandizes and Shipping, a>
- are therein particularly mentioned ; which Duties were granted to commence from and after tlit
- twenty-fourth Day of June, which was in the Year of our Lord one thoufand feven hundred and
' one, and to have Continuance for the Term of twenty-one Years, and to the End of the then ' next Seffion of Parliament, for building out a new Head, clearing the Beach, and other Works for ' the fecuring, preferring, amending and maintaining the Pier and Harbour of Minehead : And
- whereas, in purfuance of the faid Act, a new Head hath been built by the Order of the Truftees
' impowered to put the faid Act in Execution ; but the faid whole Duties not being fufficient to defray
- the Charge of compleating and finifhing the faid Pier, exclusive of the yearly Expence of repairing
' what had been done, by reafon of the great Rage and conftant flowing of the Sea on the fame, all
- the faid Rates, Duties and Sums of Money by the faid Act laid and granted, were, by another Aft

- of his late Majefty King William the Third) further continued, charged upon and made payable
■ for an additional Term of fixteen Years, to commence from and after the Expiration of the faid ' Term of twenty-one Years fo granted and given as aforefaid : And whereas the Money collected by ' the Duties granted and continued hath been duly laid out for the feveral Purpofes in the faid re-
- cited A<5ts mentioned, but the fame hath proved deficient to defray the Expences thereof; and it
- being neceffary to keep the Mouth of the faid Harbour clear from the Beach or great Quantities
' of Stones that are continually forced into it by the Violence of the Sea, whereby the fame is fre- ' quently choaked up, and to carry on other Works in order to fecure the faid Harbour, and to keep
- the fame in Repair for the Benefit and Support of the Navigation and Trade of this King-
- dom, which cannot be done unlefs the Terms and Powers granted and given by the faid for-
' mer Acts (which will expire on the twenty-fourth Day of June, one thoufand feven hundred ' and thirty-eight) be further continued and enlarged :' To the End therefore that the faid Works may be compleated and finilhed, and the Mouth of the faid Harbour kept clear of the Beach, and the faid Pier be effectually repaired and fecured for the future, may it pleafe your Majefty that it may be enacted, c?V.
- ' The former Acts continued for 40 Years. If the Harbour be not kept in Repair, the Duties to
" ceafe." CAP. IX. An Acl: for the Relief of fuch Prifoners for Debt as have by unavoidable Accidents loft the Benefit of an Act paffed in the laft Seffion of Parliament, intituled, An Acl for the Relief of Info/vent Debtors ; and for the Indemnity of fuch Sheriffs and Gaolers as have incurred any Penalties on Account of fuch Prifoners not being difcharged ; and for extending the Benefit of the faid Act to Creditors, whofe Debtors were committed to Prifon fince the firft Day of January one thoufand feven hundred and thirty, and were detained there upon the firft Day of January one thoufand feven hundred and thirty-fix, and have chofe to continue there. Sheriffs, &c. to make a Lift of Prifoners, and deliver it to the Seffions, &c. Prifoners intitled to a Difcharge by the late Debtors Act, to be releafed by the Juftices after 24 June 1738. Sheriffs, £sY. Trefpaffers againft the former A6t indemnified, if they conform to this Ad. EXP. CAP. X. An Act for enlarging the Term and Powers granted and given by an Act paffed in the twelfth Year of the Reign of his late Majefty King George, For repairing the Roads from Lemsford Mill, in the County of Hertford, to Welwyn, and from thence to Cory's Mill, and from Welwyn, through Co- dicot, to Hitchen in the faid County : and alfo for repairing the Roads from Cery'j Mill to Hitchen aforefaid. PR, The Tolls granted by 12 Geo. 1. c. 10. are farther continued for 21 Years, and to the End of the next Seffion of Parliament. CAP.
