J 739. hundred and ten, fet a Price upon, or feil, or expofe to Sale any Bo;>k or Books, at fuch a Price or Rate as (hall be conceived by any Pencm or Ferfons to be high and unreafonable; it (hall and may be lawful for any Perfon or Pafons to make Complaint thereof to the Lord Archbishop of Canterbury for the time being, the Lord Chancellor, or Lord Keeper of the Great Seal of Gruit Britain for the tune being, the Lord Bilhop of London for the time being, the Lord Chief Juliice of the Court of Queen's Bench, the Lord Chief Juftice of the Court of Common Pleas, the Lord Chief Baron of the Court cf Exchequer for the time being, the Vice Chancellors of the two Univerfities for the time being, in that Part of Great Britain called England, the Lord Prefident of the Seliions ior the time being, the Lord Juftice General for the time being, the Lord Chief Baron of the Ex- chequer for the time being, the Rector of the College of Edinburgh for the time being in that Part Part of Great Britain called Scotland, who, or any one of them, ihall, and have hereby full Power and Authority from time to time, to fend for, fummon, or call before him or them, fuch Bjok- leller or Bookfellers, Printer or Printers, and to examine and enquire of the Reafon of the Dear- nefs and Inchancement of the Price or Value of fuch Book or Books by him or them fo fold, or ex- pofed to Sale; and if upon fuch Enquiry and Examination, it (hall be found that the Price of fuch Book or Books is enhanced, or any wife too high or unreafonable, then, and in fuch Cafe, the faid Archbifhop of Canttrbury, Lord Chancellor, or Lord Keeper, Bifhop of London, two Chief Ju- ftices, Chief Baron, Vice Chancellors of the Univerhties in that Part o| Great Britain called Eng- land, and the faid Lord Prefident of the Seflions, Lord Juftice General, Lord Chief Baron, and Rector of the College of Edinburgh in that Part of Great Britain called Scotland, or any one or more of them, fo enquiring and examining, have hereby full Power and Authority to reform and redreis the fame, and to limit and fettle the Price of every fuch printed Book and Books, from time to time, according to the beft of their Judgments, and as to them lhall feem juft and reasonable; and in cafe of Alteration of the Rate or Price from what was fet or demanded by fuch Bookfeiler or Bookfellers, Printer or Printers, to award and order fuch Bookfeiler and Bookfellers, Printer and Printers, to pay all the Cofts and Charges that the Perfon or Perfons fo complaining (hall be put unto by reafon of fuch Complaint, and of the caufing fuch Rate or Price to be fo limited and fettled; all which (hall be done by the faid Archbifhop of Canterbury, Lo"d Chancellor, or Lord Keeper, Bifhop of London, two Chief Juftices, Chief Baron, Vice Chancellors of the two Univer- fities in that Part of Great Britain called England, and the faid Lord Prefident of the Seflions, Lord Juftice General, Lord Chief Baron, and Rector of the College of Edinburgh in that Part of Gnat Britain called Scotland, or any one of them, by Writing under their Hands and Seals, and thereof publick Notice (hall be forthwith given by the faid Bookfeiler or Bookfellers, Printer or Printers, by an Advertifement in the Gazette; and if any Bookfeiler or Bookfellers, Printer or Printers, (hall, after fuch Settlement made of the faid Rate and Price, fell, or expofe to Sale, a ly Book or Books at a higher or greater Price than what (hall have been fo limited and fettled as aforefaid; then, and in every fuch Cafe, fuch Bookfeiler and Bookfellers, Printer and Printers, lhall forfeit the Sum of five Pounds for every fuch Book fo by him, her or them fold or expofed to Sale, one Moiety there- of to the Queen's moll Excellent Majefty, her Heirs and Succeffors, and the other Moiety to any Perfon or Perfons that (hall fue for the fame, to be recovered with Cofts of Suit, in any of her Ma- jefty' s Courts of Record at TVeJlminJler, by Action of Debt, Bill, Plaint or Information, in which no Wager of Law, Eflbin, Privilege or Protection, or more than one Imparlance (hall be allowed; and every Part of the faid Claufe, (hall be, and the fame is hereby repealed..
