Preamble. tive Pit or Pits from whence fuch Rock Salt (hall be taken, or at fuch Places as on or before the tenth Day of May one thoufand feven hundred and two, lhall have been ufed for the refining Rock Salt, un- der a Penalty therein exprefied : And whereas there hath been anciently an Houfe or Place in which Rock Salt has been refined or made into White Salt before the faid tenth Day of May one thoufand ' feven hundred and two, near the Sea between Neath and Szvauzey, in the County of Glamorgan, in
- South Walts, but the fame is now, and hath been for many Years, covered with Sand, and become
' intirely ufelefs, and the Country thereabouts (being at a very great Diftance from any other Salt ' Works) have been thereby deprived of the Benefit of being fupphed with Salt as formerly : And ' whereas certain Salt Works have been erected at great Charges at Neath aforefaid, about four or fiv c ' Miles Diflance from the Place before mentioned, for the making of White Salt from Sea Water, and ' upon feveral Occafions Rock Salt would be very ufeful to ftrengthen the Brine in the faid Works, when ' weakened by frelh Water or other Accidents ; but the proper Ufe of the faid Salt Works not beine ' for the refining Rock Salt, it hath been doubted whether Rock Salt might be there ufed :' For pre- venting fuch Doubts for the future, be it enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That Rock Salt may be fo ufed in the making Salt from Sea Water in the faid Salt Works at Neath aforefaid ; any thing iu the faid Act or in any other Law or Statute to the contrary notwithftanding, fo as his Majefty's Duties for all the Salt proceeding as well from the faid Rock Salt as from the Sea Water be duly charged, anfuer- ed and paid to his Majefty's Ufc. CAP. XXIII. An Act for the effectual Draining and Prefervation of Waterbeach Level inv the County of Cambridge, and to eftablifh an Agreement made between the Lord of the Manor of Water- beach cum Denny, and the Commoners within the faid Manor. P R„ HE RE AS certain Fen Lands and Low Grounds, lying and being in the feveral Pari fhes of Waterbeach and Wicken, in the County of Cambridge, and in Stretham and Thetford, in the IjTe of Ely, and County aforefaid, commonly called Waterbeach Level, containing in the whole four thou- fand five hundred Acres of Land, or thereabouts ; two thoufand five hundred Acres whereof, or there- abouts, are commonable Lands, and the reft are Severals ; the greateft Part of which faid Lands are within the Manor of Waterbeach cum Denny, and the reft are within the Parifhes of Wicken, Stretham, and Thetford aforefaid, and are bounded as follows, videlicet, From the Brewhoufe in Waterbeach AliJ- load Fen, near the Weft Bank of the River Grant, to that Bank,, and along the Weft Side of that Bank to Harrymere Head, at the old River Owze, and from thence by the South Side of the South Bank of the faid River Owze, to Stretham Ferry, and from thence by the tail Side of Stretham Ferry Bank, to Chittering Hill, including the low Lands of Chittering Fen, as now .flaked and meared out ; and from Chi tiering Hill to Denny Farm Grounds, including all the low Lauds thereto adjoining, belonging to I Demy Farm aforefaid ; and from thence, including all the reft of the low Lands, cf Chittering Fen aforefaid, as are alfo now flaked and meared out, to Waterbeach JoyJ} Fen ; and from thence, inclu- ding the faid Joyji Fen, and all the low Lands belonging to Denny Farm aforefaid,. adjoining to the faid "Joyji Fen, and alfo the low Lands lying between Chittering Hill and Joyji Fen aforefaid, to Wa- terbeach Bannel, or Denny Sheep Walk, including all the low Lands belonging to the faid Bannel 01 Sheep Walk, as the fame are now alfo flaked and meared out ; and from thence by the Weft Side ol 'Midload Fen, including all the Lands called Drainers Grounds, and all the faid Midload Fen, to the Brewhoufe aforefaid (excluding all the faid Banks, and the Ware-dykes thereof) are fo futject tc Inundations through the Defpds. of their Outfalls to Sea, that the fame are but of very little Benefit or Advantage to the Owners and Occupiers of thofe Grounds, or to thj Commoners having Right ol Common on the Commonable Parts thereof and cannot be preferved without the Aid of Parliament, to enable the faid Owners and Commoners to drain and keep the fame drained for the future ; and a? the faid Fen Lands and low Grounds are in their own Nature very rich an*l fertile, great Benefit anc Advantage will accrue thereby, not only to the faid Owners and Commoners, but to the Publick ir general : And whereas the Lord of the Manor of Waterbeach cum Denny aforefaid, and the Common- ers having Right of Common, as well within the faid Level,, as in other Parts of the faid Manor have entered into Articles of Agreement in.
