And uch as no Provifion is made by the faid recited Act, with refpedt to Seizures of Ships, Veflels, and ' Boats, by rcafon whereof groundlcfs and vexatious Claims are frequently cntred thereto, and the Offi- ' cers of the Cuiloms put to great Charges in the condemiring thereof;' Be it enadted by the Authority aforefaid, That from and after the twenty-fourth Day of June one thoufand feven hundred and forty-two, where any Ship, Veflcl or Boat whatfoever fhall be feized by virtue of any Law now in Force, made fur the more effectual preventing the Exportation of Wool, and where any Ship, Veflcl, or Boat of the Bur- then of one hundred Tons, or under, fhall be feized for the unlawful Importation of Tea, Brandy, Ar- rack, Rum, Strong Waters or Spirits, or for being ufed in the relanding any Goods whereon there is a Drawback or Bounty, or in the Removing, Carriage, or Conveyance of prohibited or uncuftomed Goods after the unfhipping thereof, or for any other Caufe of Forfeiture ; every Perfon upon Entry of any Claim in the Court where any fuch Ship, Veflcl, or Boat fhall be profecuted, fhall be obliged to give Security in the Penalty of thirty Pounds, to anfwer and pay the Cofts occafioned by fuch C' a ' m > an d in Default of giving fuch Security within- the Time limited by the Courfe of that Court for entering Claims, fuch Ship, Veflel, or Boat fhall be recovered. And whereas by an Act paffed in the eleventh and twelfth Years of King William the Third, ' it is air.ong other Things enadted, That all Wrought Silks, Bengals and Stuffs, mixed with Silk or ' Herba of the Manufacture of Pcrfia, China, or Eajl India, and all Callicocs painted, dyed, printed, ot ' ftained there, which are or fhall be imported into this Kingdom, fhall not be worn or otherwife ufed ' within this Kingdom, but under fuch Limitations as are therein mentioned and expreffed ; and that all ' fuch Goods which fhall be imported into this Kingdom, fhall after Entry thereof, be forthwith carried ' and put into fuch Warehoufe or Warehoufes as fhall for that Purpofe be approved of by the Commif- ' fioners of his Majefty's Cuftoms for the Time being, fo as none of them fhall be taken or carried out ' thence upon any Account whatfoever, other than in order for Exportation, and not until fufEcient Se- ' curity be full given to the King's Majefty, his Heirs and Succeflbrs (which the faid Commiffioners are ' thereby required and impowered to take) that the fame and every Part thereof fhall be exported, and not ' landed again in any Part of this Kingdom; and that the Warehoufe Keeper or Warehoufe Keepers fhall ' keep one or more Book or Books, wherein he or they fhall fairly enter or write an exadt, particular, ' and true Account of all and every Cheft, Bale, and Number of Pieces therein contained, of fuch ot ' the aforefaid Goods only which fhall be brought into, and carried out of his or their faid Warehoufe ' or Warehoufes, and the Days and Times when the fame fhall be brought in and carried out ; audit ' upon Examination it fhall appear that any of the aforefaid Goods were carried out, unlefs for Exporta- ' tion, or before fufficient Security given for their Exportation as aforefaid, that then the Warehoufe ' Keeper or Warehoufe Keepers fo offending therein, fhall not only forfeit and lofe the Value of the faid ' Goods fo carried out as aforefaid, and be for ever di fabled from any publick Employment for the fu-

' Goods before-mentioned, upon opening thereof, are frequently found to be fpotted or ftained with Said ' Water, or otherwife damaged in the Voyage, and unlefs permitted to be taken out of the Warehoufe ' or Warehoufes to be refrefhed and cleaned, they may totally perifh, and the faid Goods in feveral other ' Refpedts, in the Condition they come over, are entirely unfit for many Markets to which they are now ' fent, and thereby give other Nations the fole Vent of thofe Goods, and render the Value of them here ' much-lefs, which in both Cafes would be of very great Lofs to this Kingdom ;' Be it therefore enadted by the Authority aforefaid, That from and after the twenty-fourth Day of June one thoufand feven hun- dred and forty-two, if any Wrought Silks, Bengals, and Stuffs mixed with Silk or Herba, of the Ma- nufacture of Perfta, China, or Eqji India, or any Callicoes painted, dyed, printed or ftained there, which fhall be imported into this Kingdom, and fecured in a Warehoufe or Warehoufes as aforefaid, fhall upon Examination by the proper Officers, appear to be fpotted or ftained with Salt Water, or otherwife da- maged in the Voyage, or to be unfit for foreign Markets, unlefs cleaned and refrefhed, dyed, glazed or calendered, then it fhall and maybe lawful, upon Bond being firft given to his Majefty, his Heirs and Succeflbrs, which the faid Commiffioners are hereby impowered to take, with two or more fufficient Sureties, in the Penalty of double the Value of the Goods, vvith Condition that all and every Part of the Goods delivered out, fhall be again returned into the fame Warehoufes within a certain Time to be limited in the faid Bond, which Time fhall be fuch as the faid Commiffioners fhall judge reafonable ; then and in fuch Cafe, it fhall and may be lawful to and for the Warehoufe Keeper or Warehoufe Keepers of the faid Warehoufes, by Leave of the faid Commiffione.'s, to fuffer any of the faid Goods in the Condi- tion aforefaid to be taken out of the faid Warehoufes, or any of them, under the Care and in the Cuf- tody of fuch Officer or Officers, as the faid Commiffioners fhall direct and appoint, to be cleaned, dyed, preffed, glazed, calendered or refrefhed, in order to make them the more merchantable and fit for foreign Markets ; provided and it is hereby enacted, that the Officer or Officers who fhall be appointed to have the Charge and Cuftody of the faid Goods while they are out of the Warehoufe or Warehoufes for the, Purpofes aforefaid, be paid for his or their Attendance and Trouble therein, by the Perfon or Perfons at whofe Requeft the Goods fhall be delivered out ; and in cafe of any Difpute, as to the Allowance to be made fuch Officer or Officers for his or their Attendance and Trouble therein, the fame fhall be adjudged
