Duplicates of the Land -Tax Af- feiTments to be kept among the Records of the Seffionsj to be infpefled, or Copies taken. Further Qua- lifications of Electors. Penally of 4s!, A.D. 1745. cafe any Freeholder or other Perfon taking the fiyd Oath or Affirmation hereby appointed, fhall thereby commit wilful Perjury, and be thereof convifted ; and if any Perfon do unlawfully and corruptly procure or fuborn any Freeholder, or other Perfon, to take the faid Oath or Affirmation, in order to be polled, whereby he (hall commit fuch wilful Perjury, and fhall be thereof convicted, he and they, for every fuch Offence, fhall incur fuch Pains and Penalties as are in and by two Aiis of Parliament, the one made in the fifth Year of the Reign of the late Queen Elizabeth, intituled, An Aft for punijhing fuch Perfons at Jhall procure or commit wilful Perjury, orjuborn or procure any Perfon to commit any zuilful or corrupt Perjury ; the other made in the fecond Year oi his prefent Majefty, intituled, An Act for the more effectual preventing and further Punijlmient of Forgery, Perjury, and Subornation of Perjury ; and to make it Felony to /leal Bonds, Notes, or other Securities for Payment of Money ■, contrary to the faid Afts. 4 II. And whereas by the faid Aft made in the tenth Year of the Reign of her late Majefty Queen ' Anne, It is enacted as follows ; videlicet, that from and after the firft Day of May which was in the ' Year of our Lord one thoufand feven hundred and twelve, no Perfon (hall vote for the electing of any

' or Tenements which have not been charged or affeffed to the^iublick Taxes, Church Rates, and Parifh ' Duties, in fuch Proportion as other Lands or Tenements of forty Shillings per Annum, within the fame ' Parifh or Townfhip wherein the fame fhall lie or be, are ufu-ily charged : And whereas by an Aft of ' Parliament made in the twelfth Year of the Reign of her faid late Majefty Queen Anne, for explaining ' the faid recited Claufe, It is enafted, That the faid A£t, or any thing therein contained, fhall not extend ' or be conftrued to reftrain any Perfon from voting in fuch Election of any Knight of a Shire within that ' Part of Great Britain called England, in Refpeft or in Right of any Rents, Tythes, or other incorporeal

  • Inheritances, or any MelTuages or Lands in extraparochi J Places, or any Chambers in the Inns of

' Court, or Inns of Chancery, or any Mefluages or Seats belonging to any Offices, in regard or by reafon

  • that the fame have not been ufually charged or aflefled to all or any the publick Taxes, Church Rates,
  • and Parifh Duties, as mentioned in the above recited Aft, or in Refpeft or Right of any other Mefluages

' or Lands not herein before fpecified, in regard or by reafon that the fame have not been ufually charged

  • or aflefled to all and every the publick Taxes, Church Rates, and Parifh Duties aforefaid ; provided
  • that fuch Mefluages or Lands _ have ufually been charged or aflefled to fome one or more of the faid

' publick Taxes, Rates or Duties, in fuch Proportion as other Mefluages or Lands of forty Shillings ' per Annum, in the fame Parifh or Townfhip where the fame fhall lie or be, are ufually charged to the ' fame;' Be it enafted by the Authority aforefaid, That To much of the faid recited Aft as difables any Perfon to vote for Knights of Shires,, in Refpeft or in Right of any Lands or Tenements which have not been charged or aflefled as therein mentioned, fhall from and after the faid : twenty-fourth Day of June be and is hereby repealed. t . ' III. Provided always, That from and after the faid twenty-fourth Day of June, no Perfon fhall vote for the elefting of a Knight or Knights of the Shire to ferve in Parliament within that Part of Great Bri- tain called England, or the Principality of Wales, in Refpeft or in Plight of any Mefluages, Lands or Tenements, which have not been charged or aflefled towards fome Aid granted, or hereafter to be granted to his Majefty, his Heirs or Succeflbrs, by a Land Tax in Great Britain, twelve Kalendar Months next before fuch Eleftion. IV. Provided alfo, That this Aft, or any thing therein contained, fhall not extend, or be conftrued to reftrain any Perfon from voting in any fuch Eleftion of any Knight or Knights of a Shire within that Part oi Great Britain called England, or Principality of Wales, in Refpeft or in Right of any Rents, or any Chambers in the Inns of Court or Inns of Chancery, or any Mefluages or Seats belonging to any Offices, in regard or by reafon that the fame have not been ufually charged or aflefled to the Aid com- monly called The Land Tax and that the afting Commiffioners of the Land Tax for the Time being, or any three or more of them, at their Meetings for the refpeftive Divifions, fhall fign and feal one other Duplicate of the Copies of the refpeftive. Affeffments to be delivered to them by the feveral Afleflbrs, after all Appeals determined, and the fame to deliver, or caufe to be delivered, to the Clerks of the Peace for their refpeftive Counties, to be by them kept amongft the Records of the Seffions, to which all Per- fons may refort at all feafonable Times, and infpeft the fame, paying fix Pence for fuch Infpeftion ; and the faid Clerks of the Peace, or their Deputies, are hereby required forthwith to give Copies of the f dd Duplicates, or any Part thereof, to any fuch Perfon or Perfons who fhall require the fame, paying after the Rate of fix Pence for every three hundred Words, and fo in Proportion for any greater or leffer Number. V. And be it further enafted by the Authority aforefaid, That from and after the faid twenty-fourth Day of June one thoufand feven hundred and forty-five, no Perfon fhall vote in any fuch Eleftion, with- out having a Freehold Eftate in the County for which he votes, of the clear yearly Value of forty Shil- I lings, over and above all Rents and Charges payable out of or in refpeft of the fame, or without having >' been in the aftual Poffeffion, or in Receipt of the Rents and Profits thereof, for his own Ufe, above twelve Kalendar Months, unlefs the fame came to him within the Time aforefaid, by Defcent, Marriage, Marriage Settlement, Devife, or Promotion to any Benefice in a Church, or by Promotion to an Office, or fliajl vote in Refpeft or in Right of any Freehold Eftate, which was made or granted to him fraudu- lently, on purpofe to qualify him to give his Vote, or fhall vote more than once at the fame Eleftion : And if any Perfon fhall vote in any fuch Eleftiort, contrary to the true Intent and Meaning hereof, he fhall forfeit to any Candidate for whom fuch Vote fhall not have been given, and who fhall firft fue for the fame, the Sum of forty Pounds, to be recovered by him or them,, his or their Executors or Admini- strators, together with full Cofls of Suit, by Action of Debt, in any of his Majefty's Courts of Record at
