' An Kdi for dividing the Parifli of St. Philip a7id Jacob in the Cotinty of Gloucefier and' m the City and County of Brijiol ; and for erefting a Church in the new intended Parilh-. PR. WHEREAS the Inhabitants of that Part of the now or late Foreft or Chafe of King/wood' whicfe lies in the Parifh of St. Philip and Jacob in the County of Gloucejier, within the Diocefe oi Brijhl,. are very numerous, and at a great Diftance from the Mother Church in the City of BrijIol, which faid Church is not large enough to contain all the Inhabitants : And whereas it is now propofed, for the better Accommodation of the faid Inhabitants, to eredl a new Church upon the faid now or late Foreft or Chafe, to be confecrated and ufed for the publick Worfliip of God, and the Inftrudion of the Inha- bitants there in the Chriftian Religion, as it is now profefl'ed in the Church of England,- and eftablifhed by the Laws of this Realm ; and to promote fo good a Work, Thomas Che/ier, Efrjuire, Lord of the Manor of that Part of the faid now or late Foreft or Chafe of King/wood as lies in the faid Parifh of St.- Philip and Jacob in the faid County of Gloucejlery hath propofed to grant a Piece of Ground commo- dioufly fituated in the Centre of the new intended Parifh, for the Site of a Church- and a Church-yard,, Vicarage Houfe and Gardens, and for other Purpofes relative to the Defign ; and the Right Reverend the Lord Bifhop of Durham (late of Brijiol) for promoting fo good a Defign, is difpofed and ready to give the Sum of four hundred Pounds, towards the Endowment of the new intended Vicarage, for the Maintenance of a Minifter or Vicar, who fhall relide in the Vicarage Houfe, and in order to obtain the like Sum of four hundred Pounds to be added thereto, by the Governors of the Bounty of Qnten Anne,. for the Augmentation of the Maintenance of the poor Clergy, for the further Augmentation of the: Maintenance of fuch Minifter or Vicar of the faid nev/ intended Parifh : And whereas feveral charitable and well-difpofed Perfons, to encourage fo pious an Undertaking, have contributed, and are ready to contribute, towards the erecting and finifTiing fuch Church, and an Houfe for the Minifter or Vicar to- refide in, and for the better endowing the fame, in cafe there fhall be an Overplus : and whereas the Mayor, Burgeffes and Commonalty of the City of Brijtol, Patrons of the Vicarage of the faid Parifh. Church of St. Philip and Jacob, and the Inhabitants of the faid Parifh, are willing and defirous that a new Church and Houfe may be erefted as aforefaid, and that a proper Diftridt round the intended Church may be appointed, in order to feparate the fame from the faid Parifh, and make it a diftinift and feparate Parifh ; And whereas, for preventing the Trouble of feparating and dividing the fame by Com- ' miirionersj, 4
