That all and every Perfon or Perfons that fliall ^y^"^<^ t" '"^ give, or be obliged to give fuch Notice as aforefaid, is and are hereby required at or within twenty Days ^"'^"^^'"y ^^i after the Expiration of twelve Calendar Months, after the Times of giving or being obliged to give fuch firft Notices, to give a frefli Notice in Manner aforefaid, and pay down the refpedtive annual Rates and ^"^ '^^^ Duties Duties above mentioned, according to the Number of Coaches, Berlins, Landaus, Chariots, Calafhes with P^"** four Wheels, Chaife Marines, Chaifes and Chairs with four Wheels, or Caravans and Calafhes, Chaifes and Chair.s with two Wheels, or by what Names foever fuch Carriages now are, or hereafter may be called or known, fo by him, her or them refpeftively then kept, and in the fame Manner to renew fuch Notice, and make fuch Payment from Year to Year, as long as he, fhe or they fliall fo keep any fuch Carriages ; and if any Perfon or Perfons fliall fo keep any Coach, Berlin, Landau, Chariot, Calafti, Chaife Marine, Chaife, Chair or Caravan, or by what Name foever fuch Carriage now is, or hereafter may be called or known, as aforefaid, without giving fuch firfl: Notice, and making fuch Payments as aforefaid, or without renewing fuch Notice and Payments yearly, in Manner as aforefaid, he, flie or they fliall refpeclively forfeit and lofe Penalty, the Sum of twenty Pounds for each Offence. VL And be it further enacted by the Authority aforefaid. That upon the Payment of the faid refpeftive Nnmcs of ihe Rates and Duties to hereby granted, at the faid refpeftive Offices of Excife, by the refpe£live Owners or Owners and the Proprietors thereof as aforefaid, the Names of the Perfons fo paying the fame, and the'Number of the c"rhes °' Coaches, Berlins, Landaus, Chariots, Calafties with four Wheels, Chaife Marines, Chaifes and Chairs with ""' four Wheels, and Caravans and Calafhes, Chaifes and Chairs with two Wheels, or by what Names foever fuch Carriages now are, or hereafter may be called or known, by him or her refpedtively kept, and the Name of the Parim or Place where he or flie, and any Perfon of or for whom he, flie or they fhall be Commit- tee, Trufl:ee or Guardian, refides, fliall be entered in a Regifl:er to be kept at the faid refpeitive Offices of to be regiflei'J. £xcife for that Purpofe by the Perfon fo receiving the fame ; and a Receipt (of which an indented Duplicate fliall be kept by the Perfon reciving the faid Money) fliall be given to every Perfon fo paying fuch refpedtive Rates by the faid Perfon fo receiving the fame ; which Receipt fliall contain the Number of the faid Regi- porm of the flier, the Number of the Coaches, Berlins, Landaus, Chariots, Calaflies, Chaife Marines, Chaifes, Chairs Receipts, and Caravans, or by what Names foever fuch Carriages now are, or hereafter may be called or known, fo refpeftively paid for, the Sum fo paid, and the Time for which fuch Sum fliall have been fo paid, and be a Difcharge to the refpedtlve Owner for fuch Number of Coaches, Berlins, Landaus, Chariots, Calaflies, Chaife Marines, Chaifes, Chairs and Caravans, wherefoever the fame are refpe£tively ufed. VIL And be it further enadled by the Authority aforefaid. That nothing in this Adl contained fhall ex- Stage Coachrs, tend, or be conftrued to extend, to charge with the faid Duty of four Pounds per Annum, by this Adt im- pofed upon Coaches, and other Carriages, any publick Stage Coach, which is confl:antIy employed in car- rying Paflengers for Hire to and from different Places within this Kingdom, on certain Days in every Week fixed for that Purpofe, and not ufed or lett out to Hire by way of By-jobb, for a Day, or any longer Time. VIIL Provided alfo. That this Aifl fliall not extend to charge with the faid Duty of forty Shillings per and Poft chaifes,' Annum, by this Ad: impofed upon Chaifes and Chairs with two Wheels, any Pofl: Chaife that now is, or '^"'"I'te'J- hereafter fhall be kept for Hire by his Majefly's Poft-mafl:er General, or by any Deputy Pofl:-mafter in Great Britain, authorized by him to keeii fuch Poft Chaifes. IX. Provided neverthelefs, 'I'hat all and every the Poft Chaifes, fo to be kept by fuch Poft-mafter Gene- Poft Chaifes to ' ral, or any Deputy Poft-mafters, for Hire, as aforefaid, fliall, within thirty Days after the faid twenty-fifth be entered at the Day of March one thoufand feven hundred and forty-feven, or within thirty Days after the letting out of fuch '^"'^'^ OiBce, Chaifes for Hire, be entered by the Owners thereof at the Office of Excife next to the Place where fuch Perfons inhabit ; and fliall (befides his Majefty's Arms to be painted upon every fuch Poft Chaife) have fuch ai'd to have a Figure or Mark of Diftindion fixed thereupon, as fhall be appointed by the faid Commiffioners for that Pur- M'^'k. pofe ; and in cafe any fuch Poft-mafter fhall, from and after the faid twenty-fifth Day of March one thou- fand feven hundred and forty-feven, lett out to Hire any fuch Poft Chaife before the fame (hall have been en- tered, or fliall have fuch Arms painted, or fuch Mark or Fiu;ure fixed thereupon, as aforefaid, every fuch Penalty lol. Deputy Poft-mafter and Poft-mafters fliall, for every I'uch Ofi-ence, forfeit the Sum of twenty Pounds. X. And be it further enaited by the Authority aforefaid. That it fhall and may be lawful to and for the coaches, &c, faid Com.milTioners to caufe fuch Figure or Mark of Dlftinclion as they fliall think proper to appoint, to lett ojt to Hire be fixed upon every fuch Coach, Berlin, Landau, Chariot, Calafh, Chaife Marine, Chaife, Chair or Cara- to cany a Fi- van, or by what Name foever ftich Carriage now is, or hereafter may be called or known, that fliall be fo 8"'^' ^'^' lett out to Hire as aforefaid ; and in cafe any Perfon or Perfons whatfoever flial! lett out to Hire any fuch Carriage which fl:all not have fuch Figure or Mark of Diftinction fixed thereupon as aforefaid, or fliall take off the fame when fixed to any fuch Carriage, every i'uch Perfon fhall, for every fuch Offence, forfeit Penalty 20!. and lofe the Sum of twenty Pounds. XI. And it is hereby further enadied. That nothing in this Aft contained fhall extend to charge with L^cenieci Coaches any of the faid Rates and Duties, any Coach which (hall be licenfed by the Commiflioners for regulating s^emi'^J- and licenfing Hackney Coaches within the Cities of London and Wejlinhijler, and the Suburbs thereof, and have the proper Figure or Number thereon, and which fliall not be employed in carrying any Perfon or Per- fons more than ten Miles from the faid Cities refpeftively. XII. Provided alfo, and it is hereby declared, That nothing in this A£f contained fliall extend to ch.irge Coaches kept for with any of the faid Duties, any Coach, Berlin, Landau, Chariot, Calafh, Chaife Marine, Chaife, Chair s-le not to be or Caravan, or by what Name foever fuch Carriage now is, or hereafter may be called or known, kept for '^'^'^-i' Sale, and remaining unfold in the Poffeffion of the Owner thereof, or of any Coachmaker the Purchafer thereof; and no fuch Carriage fliall at any Time, whilft in fuch Poffeffion, be employed for his or her own Vol, VIL D m^.
