CAP. I. An A(5l to continue, for a limited Time, an A61 made in the laft Seflion of Parliament, intituled. An A51 to •permit the Importation of Salted Beef, Pork and Butter, from Ireland, for a limited Time, and to amend the faid Ad.

  • '1T7HEREAS the permitting the Importation of falted Beef, Pork and Butter, (torn Ireland,
  • VV ii^fo this Kingdom, hath been found ufeful and beneficial ; and that the Time allowed for

•' that Purpofe is near expiring, and it is expedient that the fame fhould be prolonged:' May it therefore pleafe your moft Excellent Majefty, that it may be enacted ; nnd be it enaiSted by the King's moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confcnt of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this prefent Parliament aflembled, and by trie Authority of the fame, that an A€i made in the laft SefTion of Parliament, intituled, An Aft to permit the Impor- iatton of falted Beef., Perk and Butter, from lre.nd, for a limited Timey which was to contijiue in Force for the Term of fix Months, from and after the twenty-fourth Day of June one thoufand further continued to 24. feven hundred and fifty-eight, {hall be, and the fame is hereby further continued from the Expira- tion thereof, until the twenty-fourth Day of December one thoufand feven hundred and fifty-nine; except only with refpedl to fuch Parts thereof relating to the Payment of the Duty, and to the reco- vering of Penalties, as are amended or otherwife provided for by this A61.

  • II. And whereas Doubts have arifen whether all Kinds of falted Pork and Hog Meat may be
  • imported from Ireland, by virtue of the above recited A£t ;' Be it therefore declared and enadted

by the Authority aforefaid. That the faid A61 does and (hall extend, and fhall be deemed, con- . ftrued and taken to extend, to all Kinds of falted Pork and Hog Meat imported or to be imported,.; into Great Britain from Ireland, during the Continuance of the faid A61. ' III, And whereas the Duty or Impofition of one Shilling and three Pence charged and diredlcd . by the faid A6t to be laid on every hundred Weight of falted Beef or Pork fo to be imported from , Ireland -.xs aforefaid, is not adequate to, but falls (hort of, the Duty laid upon, and payable for, fuch Quantity of Salt as is requifite and neceffary to be ufed in curing and faking the fame: And whereas the falted Beef and Pork imported into this Kingdom from Ireland, is generally packed up and contained in Cafks, with the Pickle or Brine proper for preferving the fame; and the open- ing the faid Cafks, in order to afcertain the Net Weight of the Beef and Pork liable to the faid Duties on Importation, would not only be very expenfive to the Revenue, but alfo a great Detri- ment and Lofs to the faid Provifions, and the Owner and Importer of the fame; and that it would be more for the Benefit and Advantage of the Revenue, and alfo of fuch Owner and Importer, that the Rates and Duties to be paid upon the Importation of fuch Beef and Pork, fhould be af- > certained by, and laid upon, every Barrel of the faid Commodities fo to be imported, according; to the Rate and Proportion herein after mentioned ;' Therefore be it cnaclcd by the Authority Beef or Pork, if in Pic- aforefaid.
