An A(5l for the Regulation of his Majefty's Marine Forces while on Shore; «^ ^-TT H EREAS it may be neceffary for the Safety of this Kingdom, and the Defence of the Preamble. « W Pofleflxons of the Crown of Great Britain^ that a Body of Marine Forces fhould be em- < ployed in his Majefty's Fleet and Naval Service, under the Diredion of the Lord High Admiral, ' or Commiffioners for executing the Office of Lord High Admiral of Great Britain : And whereas
- the faid Marine Forces may frequently be quartered on Shore, where they will not be fubjedt to
- the Laws relating to the Government of his Majefty's Forces by Sea ; yet neverthelefs it bemg
•* requifite, for the retaining of fuch Forces in their Duty, that an exaa Difcipline be obferved ; and
- that Marines who fhali mutiny, or ftir up Sedition, or fliall defert his Majefty's Service, be
•• brought to a more exemplary and fpeedy Punifhment than the Law will allow ;' Be it enaded by the King's moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this prefeut Parliament alTembled, and by the Authority of the fame. That from and after the twenty-fifth Day of March one thoufand feven hundred and fifty-nine, if After 25 March 1759. any Perfon being entered, or in Pay, as an Officer of Marines, or who is or fhall be lifted, or in lYll'^^J^'^Z^:;'^?':, Pay, as a Private Man in any Company of Marines in his Majefty's Service, and on the twenty- ,i„e officer and Private ftfth Day of March one thoufand feven hundred and fifty-nine (hall remain in fuch Service, or du- j^^^^ ^^ Shore, ring the Continuance of this Aa fhall be voluntarily entered, and in Pay, as a Marine Officer or Private Man in his Majefty's Service, and being ordered or employed in fuch Service, at any Time during the Continuance of this A£l on Shore, in any Place within the Realm of Great Britain, or in the Kingdom of Ireland, or in any of his Majefty's Dominions beyond the Seas refpe^ively, ihall begin, excite, caufe, or join in any Mutiny or Sedition, in the Company to which he doth or who fliall mutiny, or ihall belong, or in any other Company, Troop or Regiment, either of Marine or Land Forces in defert, &c. his Majefty's Service, or ftiall not ufe his utmoft Endeavours to fupprefs the fame, or coming to the Knowledge of any fuch Mutiny, or intended Mutiny, ftiall not, without Delay, give Information thereof to his Commanding Officer ; or ftiall defert his Majefty's Service; or being a^ually entered or lift in any other Re- as a Marine in any Company, fnall lift himfelf in any other Company, Troop or Regiment in his g"nent. «<=. II. And be it further enafted by the Authority aforefaid. That it fliall and may fiom time to time, The Lord High Admiral, during the Continuance of this A&, be lawful to and for the faid Lord High Admiral, or three or <"^ Commimoners for more of the faid Commiffioners for executing the faid Office of Lord High Admiral for the Time Jl^'^'^^J^^Commiffion being, to grant a Commiffion under his or their refpe£live Hand or Hands, to any Officer of Marines toehold General Courts- in his Majefty's Service, not under the Degree of a Field Officer, for the holding a General Court- martial, &c. martial, at any Place or Places on Shore in this Realm, or in Ireland^ or in any of his Majefty's Dominions beyond the Seas ; in every of which Courts-martial all or any of the Offences aforefaid, and all or any other of the Offences herein after fpecified, ftiall be tried and proceeded againft in fuch Manner as by this Adl is dire«3:ed. III. And be it alfo enabled.
