An A61 for the more effedual fecurlng the Payment of fuch Prize and Bounty Monies as were appropriated to the Ufe of Greenwich HofpiiaU by an Adl made in the twenty- ninth Year of the Reign of his prefent Majefty, intituLd, An A£i for the Encourage- ment of Seamen^ and the more fpeedy and effe^ual Manning his Majeftfs Navy. WHEREAS by an Ad of Parliament made in the twertv-ninth Year of his prefent Ma- jefty's Reign, intituled, Jn ASi for the Enczuragm.cr.^ f 'Seamm, and the more fpeedy and ef- fectual Manning his Majejlys Navy, it was (amongft other Thing's) enaded. That the Flag Offi- cers, Commanders, and other Officers, Seamen, Marines, and Soldiers on Board every Ship and Veflel of War in his Majefty's Pay, fhould have the Sole Intereft and Property of and in all and every Ship, VefTel, Goods and Merchandizes, which they ihould take from and after the kix.- teenth Day of yl:^' in the Year of our Lord one thoufand feven hundred and fifty-fix, during the Continuance of tiie War againft France (being firft adjudged lawful Prize in Manner therein men- tioned) to be divided in fuch Proportions, and after fuch Manner as his Majefty, his Heirs and Succeflors fhould think fit to order and dired by Proclamation or Proclamations thereafter to be ilFued for thofe Puipofes ; and it was by the faid Ad direded, that all Appraifcments and Sales of any Ship or Ships, Goods, Wares or Merchandizes as fhould be taken by any of his Majefty's Ships of War, fhould be made by Agents or Perfons to be nominated and appointed by the Captors as therein mentioned ; and that after the Sale or Sales of fuch Prize or Prizes as fhould be taken from the Enemy by any of his Majefty's Ships of War,, public Notification fhoulu be given by the Perfons or Agents appointed, as therein before mentioned, of the Day appointed for the Payment of the feveral Shares to the Captors ; after which public Notification, if any M;ns Shares fhould remain in the Hands of fuch Perfons or A<^^ents, cither belonging to fuch Men as fhould be run from his Majefty's Service, or which fhould not be legally demanded within three Years, but then fuch Share or Shares fo remaining in the Perfons or Agents Hands, or belonging to fuch A4en as fhould be run from his Majefty's Service, fhould go and be paid to the Ufe of G;w«- wich Hofpital ; and by the faid Ad a certain Bounty was direded to be paid by the Treafurer oi his Majefty's Navy, as therein is mentioned, unto the Officers, Seamen, Marines, Soldiers, or others, that fhould have been adtually on Board any of his Majefty's Ship or Ships, or Privateer or Privateers, in any Adion where any Ship or Ships of War or Privateers fhould have been ta- ken from the Enemy, funk, burnt or otherwife deftroyed, fince his Majefty's Declaration of War againft France, to be divided in Manner, Form and Proportion ?s by his A'lajeffy's Proclamation fhould be direded ; and it was by the faid Ad further direded, that the Bill or Bills to be made out (as therein is mentioned) for fuch Bounty, fhould be made payable to fuch Perfon or Perfons as fhould be authorized and appointed by the Officers or Perfons intitled thereto, in fuch Manner as i^ therein before direded for the nominating and appointing Agents for Appraifcments and Sales to be made as therein before is mentioned ; the fame to be diilributed and divided, by the Perfon or Perfons fo authoiized and appointed, amongft the Captors, in fuch Manner, Form and Proportions as is therein before mentioned ; and that the feveral Shares of fuch Captors, if not le- gally demanded within three Years after public Notification, r.nd alfo of fuch as fhould be run from his Majefty's Service, fhould be applied to the Ufe of the faid Hofpital : And whereas no Time is limited, or particular Method prefcribed by the faid Acf, for the giving Notifications of the Day appointed for the Payment of the Shares of Prizes, nor is any exprtfs Diredion given for the No- tification of the Day of Payment of the Shares of fuch Bounty Money ps aforefaid ; and many Agents have ncgicded to fpecify in the Notification by them given in the LorJ-m Gazette, for Pay- ment of Shares of Piizes condemned in the High Court or other Courts of Admiralty in Gr<f<?/ Britain, the Particular Day or Time when fuch Payments were to commence, whereby it is very difficult, if not imnoilible, to afcertain the Time when the fiid Hofpital becomes intitled to the un- claimed Shares, by Means whereof the faid Hofpilid cannot have the full Benefit intended by the faid recited Ad :' For Remedy whereof; Be it cnaded by the King's moft Excellent Majefty, by and vith the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this prefejit Parliament afTemblcd, and by the Authority of the lame.
