' V V have been threatened with, and may be fubjedl to, vexatious Profecutions for advancing, or ' having advanced, the Price of Strong Beer or Ale, however jufHy and reafonably : Now, in order ' to prevent fuch vexatious Proceedings, may it pleafe your mofl Excellent Majefiy, that it may be

  • II. And whereas the mixing Strong Beer, Ale, or Strong Worts, with Small Beer or Small
  • ■^A^orts, or with Water, either by the Brev/er, after the Gauge thereof hath been taken, or by the
  • Victualler, after fuch Strong Beer, Ale, or Strong Worts, fliall be fold and delivered to him or her,
  • is greatly detrimental to his Majefly's Revenue, and is an Impofition upon the Confumer, and
  • hinders the Sale of genuine Strong Beer and Ale ; and the Provifions already eftabiifhed byLaw
  • are found to be infufficient to prevent the fame :' For Remedy thereof, and for the more eftedluai

Prevention of fuch Frauds; Be it hereby enaded by the Authority aforefaid, That from and aftor 50I. Pemhy on fraudu- ihe palTing of this A6t, if any common or other Brewer, Innkeeper, Vi6fua!ler, or Retailer of Beerienriy mixing Strang or Ale, fhall mix, or caufe or fufFer to be mixed, in any Veffel, Tub, Meafure, or otherwife how- ^^^*> ^^'? or Strong fjever, any Strong Beer, Ale, or Strong Worts, v/ith any Small Beer or Small Worts, or with Water, ^°" *"^ o'**" ^•- after the Gauge of fuch Strong Beer, Ale, or Strong VVorts, fhall have been taken by an Officer of ^"°"* Excife, every fuch Perfon fo offending, for every fuch OiFence^^fhall refpedively forfeit and lofe the Sum of fifty Pounds.
