L. And it is hereby enacted, That the Intereft upon the faid Bills fhall ceafe from the refpective Times that Money fhall be referved and kept in Bank for difcharging the fame. • Paymaflers liable LI. And be it enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That the faid Paymafter or Paymafters fhall be fub- to the Controul j ec "t anc l liable to fuch Infpedtion, Examination, Controul and Audit, and to fuch Rules in refpect to pay- er" the Treaiury. j n ^ accounting, and other Matters relating to the Execution of the faid Office orTrufl of Paymafter, as the Commiffioners of the Treafury, or any three or more of them now being, or the High Treafurer, or any three or more of the Commiffioncrs of the Treafury for the Time being, fhall think fit or reafonable to effablifh or appoint, from Time to Time, for the better Execution of The Intent and End of this Aft, and the Satisfaction of the Proprietors of the faid Bills. LII. And be it enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That as well thePerfon or Perfons constituted, or to- be conftituted to the faid Office of Paymafter, as alfo the Perfon or Perfons appointed or to be appointed to examine and controul the Receipts, Payments and Doings of fuch Paymafter or Paymafters, fhall respec- tively have and receive for the Services of themfelves refpectively, and of the Clerks and Subftitutes to be employed under them refpectively, and for fuch Charges as fhall be neceffarily incident to the Execution of their refpeclive Offices, luch Salaries, Rewards and Allowances, as the Commiffioners of the Treafury, or any three or more of them now being, or the High Treafurer, or any three or more of the Commiffioners of the Treafury for the Time being, fhall judge to be reafonable, and direct in that Behalf, and to be allowed upon the proper Account or Accounts of the faid Paymafter or Paymafters. ' LIII. And, for the better fupporting the Currency of the faid Bills to be made forth by this Act, and ' to the end a fufficient Provifion roay be made for circulating and exchanging for ready Money, from Time ' to Time, the faid Bills, or fuch of them as fhall, from Time to Time, remain undifcharged, -during fucb ' Time as they, or any of them, are to be current ;' Be it further enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That and to contrafl the Commiffioners of the Treafury, or any three or more of them now being, or the High Treafurer, or with Perfons to ar) y three or more of the Commiffioners of the Treafury for the Time being, on his Majefty's Behalf, mall and may, from Time to Time, enter into any Contract or Contracts, for obliging any Perfon or Perfons^ Body or Bodies Politick or Corporate, who will voluntarily undertake this Service, at his or their own Cofts or Charges, to circulate and exchange, at fome publick Office in London or IVeJtminfter, for ready Moiie)', from Time to Time, all fuch of the faid Bills, which fhall have been made forth by virtue of this Act, as fhall be demanded at fuch publick Office, during the Time or refpective Times of fuch Contract or Contracts, by paying in ready Money, at their own Cofts and Charges, upon every fuch Demand, or ■within twenty-four Hours after, all the principal Monies contained in every fuch Bill to be demanded, and' the Intereft which fhall then be due thereupon, and fo totles quoties, as often as any fuch Bill fhall be de- manded ; the faid Contractors or Undertakers from Time to Time, upon exchanging every fuch Bill, taking in the Bill fo exchanged for theirown Ufe, and being allowed a Rate, or feveral Rates, not exceed- ing four Pounds per Centum per Annum, as well for paying the faid Intereft, at their own Cofts, as alfo in reward for their Service, upon all the faid Bills fo undertaken to be circulated; which faid refpective Rate or Rates fhall be paid as is herein after mentioned; and the faid Contract or Contracts fhall be made in Writing, and regiftered in the Office of the Auditor of the Receipt of his Majefty's Exchequer, and fhall be made to endure for fuch Time and Times refpectively, as fhall be agreed by the Contractors. LIV. And it is hereby enacted, That fuch Contractors, or any of them, fhall not, for that Caufe only, be difabled from being a Member or Members of Parliament, or be adjudged liable to be a Bankrupt or Bankrupts, within the Intent and Meaning of all or any the Statutes made againft or concerning Bank- rupts ; any Law, Statute or Provifion to the contrary notwithftanding. LV. Provided always, and be it enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That fuch Contractors (with the raife the intereft C on (" en t and Approbation of the Commiffioners of the Treafury, or any three or more of them now being, or the High Treafurer, or any three or more of the Commiffioners of the Treafury for the Time being, and not otherwife) may, at any Time or Times after the twenty-fourth Day of jfune one thoufand kven hundred and fixty-four, by Writing to be affixed upon the Exchange of London, and by Publication in the London Gazette, declare and direct, if they fhall fee fo Caufe and think fit, the faid Bills to be made forth by virtue of this Act, or any Number or Part of them, to carry a lower or higher Rate of Intereft, than the faid Rate of four Pounds per Centum per Annum, for fuch Time or Times as fhall be mentioned in fuch Writing and Publication, as aforefaid : And for the greater Accommodation and Eafe of paying the faid Bills to be made forth by virtue of this Act, or any of them, to the Receivers and Collectors of the Pub- lick Revenues, and into the Receipt of the Exchequer, the faid Commiffioners of the Treafury, or any three or more of them, or the High Treafurer for the Time being, have hereby Power, at the Requeft of fuch Contractors, to make forth, or caufe to be made forth, any of the faid Exchequer Bills without bearing any Intereft; yet neverthelefs thofe Bills fo to be made forth without bearing any Intereft, may, from Time to Time, be made to carry fuch Intereft as the faid Contractors fhall, by Writing to be affixed on the Exchange of London, and publifhed in the London Gazette, fignify and declare in that Behalf. Contractors how LVI. And it is hereby enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That the Commiffioners of the Treafury, or to be paid. an y tnree or more f them now being, or the High Treafurer, or any three or more of the Commiffioners of the Treafury for the Time being, fhall caufe the Monies which fhall, from Time to Time, be incurred and grown due t,g fuch Contractors, upon inch refpective Rates or Premiums, not exceeding~as aforefaid, to Contractors not djfibled from being; Members of Parliament : May lower or with Content of Treafury,
